Do I need to be woried about malaria if I am just going to be there for a day.

For a daytime visit, there is almost no risk for malaria. Malaria is transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito that bites primarily between dusk and dawn. Here is some excellent information here:

However, mosquitos that transmit Dengue Fever do bite during daylight hours, so it is important to use insect repellant to avoid bites.

I have been here in Belize three years and have not heard of anyone getting sick from any bites.
