DKJ Posted March 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2005 Was just informed my travel partner only has adoption certificate. Will that be sufficent for proper ID?
Copper_beeches Posted March 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2005 Are usually re-issued "birth" certificates... I have 4 brothers who were adopted as adolescents and they all had certificates that listed my parents as legal guardians, and also had their regular birth certificate info like the name of the date, town and state where they were born... We also had their originals in some cases... Even if this was done before they gave out that sort of information, the adoption certificate should be enough to prove citizenship... I'd check with the town hall though to see if he can get a copy of his original BC.
vijoge Posted March 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2005 I seriously doubt it. A birth certificate is required. My son needed a copy of his in a hurry last year and we got one using vital check in a couple of days, though.

WazAnOkie Posted March 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Also check the info at http://glossary.adoption.com/adoption-certificate.html. excerpt: Adoption Certificate: This is sometimes referred to as a Certificate of Adoption, and is the official document that is signed by the Judge at the time of the finalization of the adoption, which triggers a new birth certificate to be issued for the adopted child by the Department of Vital Records, showing the adoptive parents as though they were the original biological parents of the child, so that this new birth certificate can be inserted in the public records in place of original birth certificate. Find more information on Adoption Certificate</SPAN> If not local, one place you should be able to get a BC from is: http://www.vitalchek.com Good Luck!
