Norwegian Coastal Voyages

We did an itinerary from Copenhagen to Edinburgh in summer of 2001 on one of the small (114 passenger) Renaissance ships. It included around five stops in Norway. It was one of our most favorite cruises. This was our first time to these ports and we expected to love Copenhagen and Scotland, but we so surprised at the wonderful scenery in Norway. The fjiords are amazing and put Alaska's scenery to shame (IMHO).

There are a lot of things to see in Norway, such as the Viegeland Sculpture Park outside Oslo(make sure you get a private guide) , Tvinde falls, Bergen was a hit, as well as the Flam railroad (take this excursion on your own). The best way to so this trip is on a smaller ship as the bigger ships can't dock and have to rely on tenders.

We'd go back and do the trip again if there weren't so many other places we haven't been to yet. It's too bad that Ren went bankrupt and the small ships were sold. We're hoping that our coming China trip on Viking will come close to the small ship atmosphere we loved with Ren.

We did a AAA tour of China with 5 nights on the Yangtze on Victoria Cruise Line. You will love the trip. It is the best of all of our trips so far.

Here's the address for some pictures.

The NCV ships are small and combination cruise/commuter/supply ships of about 670 PAX. We're doing round trip from Bergen to Kirkenes with 34 stops each way. The stops are from 45 min to 6 hours long.
