abisha Posted May 4, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2011 I'm travelling with my two 17 year olds, along with my husband (who is step dad to my kids). When I divorced their biological dad, I was given full legal custody per my divorce papers. I read on another thread that per Carnival, the only port that you need to prove guardianship (when only one parent is travelling) is if you are going to Mexico....which is NOT one of my ports. BUT..in event of hurricaine in August, we could re-route, and it could very well become one of our ports. I know I do not need a notorized permission letter as I do not fall into that category (someone posted the form and the rules...and I fall into the third category, whereas I'm the legal guardian and certified guardian paperwork needs to be presented). So, if I do bring it, all I really have are the divorce papers that show on one page in a small paragraph that I have full custody, etc. So, do I need to even bother with bringing copy of my divorce papers? I always like to be ready in case questioned, but if I really don't need it, then I won't bother.
okgirl Posted May 4, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2011 I operate on the "better safe than sorry" principle......it's really not so much the Mexico issue as it is your luck of the draw of Shoreside agents.....Some know the rules better than others, and some "interpret" the rules better than others......and since they are the ones that will either let you board or not let you board......I would be prepared with the papers.... Like my Momma said "Prepare for the worst, everything else is a pleasant surprise"
