muddyw Posted March 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2005 Oriana and Oceana are both good ships, but are completely different in design and atmosphere. Oriana is refined but somewhat reserved. Most of her lounges etc. are accessed via doors from corridors which run along one side of the ship only, and are not directly accessible from one another. This gives the ship a very private feel, but the absence of any walk-through factor does not encourage social interaction. Oceana, however, is very much open plan, with areas merging into one another; much more sociable, and much easier to meet and mingle. She has, therefore, a much livelier atmosphere, and tends to be favoured by the newer, younger cruisers, and the young at heart. The more traditional P&O cruisers tend to prefer Oriana. Druke I Posted March 19, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2005 I haven't been on the new Oriana, (was on old Oriana twice), but agree with MuddyW's assessment. Oriana reserved (staid), while Oceana (sister of Sun Princess, which we have been on) is open and laid-back, designed for the American market. We still have high hopes of taking a portion of Oriana's world cruise someday, through the Suez.
bayofbiscay Posted April 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2005 Of the two we prefer Oriana, purely down to the fact that we love Andersons and Crows Nest. I think the alternative eating areas on Oceana are better though. Keith
Jo42 Posted April 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2005 Looking at Oceana out of Southampton for 7 nights in July but only inside cabins remaining - we usually choose a balcony cabin. What do you think - would we be too cramped or still enjoy it as most of our time is spent out and about on the boat and on shore anyway.
bayofbiscay Posted April 21, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2005 We have stayed in Balcony and inside. There is ample room in the inside cabins if you have the beds made up as twins.
Jo42 Posted April 21, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 21, 2005 Doesn't it feel enclosed, like being in a cupboard - off thread I know but last question!

rumbaLiz Posted April 24, 2005 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2005 We are going on the Oriana for 12 night Med cruise on July 24th, purely because we liked the itinery. It has a teen club, thats an important factor, and being its the school summer break, i am sure wil be more family orientated. We are looking forward to it. rumbaLiz Posted April 24, 2005 #11 Share Posted April 24, 2005 Would like to ask, is the Al Frescos restaurant open 24 hours, can you just go in in the evening with out a reservation or supplement? Do they serve afternoon tea in the dinning room? Do they charge for room service? How many formal nights do you think there is for a 12 night cruise?
