Freedom of the Seas May 15 - 22... it happend to us

We had a ridiculous time. This much fun should not be legal !

I am not going to get into a big review but I will share with you MY person interpretation of how it went for our group of 11. We were from 10 to 70 years old in a total of 2 families that included a grandmother on one family and a friend of my nieces on the other.

· The food was great ! We had awesome prime rib and filet in the MDR, cooked just as I liked it. ( I grew up on family farm raised beef and know what good meat is… they had good meat ) The lobster was tasty as were the shrimp. Had the Maui Maui one night and it did not disappoint at all. Everyone loved the food in the MDR. On the down side…. I love Caesar salad… the dressing was on the salad a little too long for me but… it did not kill me to eat either !

· The weather was outstanding. If we had no breeze we would have melted. It was a very hot week for a group of Canadians that have not enjoyed a good spring yet

· The itinerary was so , so

The main beach at Labadee was not the best but the zip line is a hoot there. Go to the other side where the water park is if you like the beach

Falmouth was a snooze. Not much there yet… but it is coming. Did not go on an excursion there due to having to drive everywhere. Falmouth has nothing either. It is a very poor area. Your biggest hassle is with people trying to get you on a tour. Otherwise it was ok

Cozumel did nothing for me either. Lots of Jewelry shops and Mexicans hocking the same stuff.. but they were ok as well. Went to a beach @ Mr Sanchos after shopping. It was just down the road from paradise beach. I would not recommend it myself.

Grand Cayman is nice. Jewelry is everywhere here as well. We went to a dolphin experience and snubba diving. Everyone had fun

· The shows wee amazing with the exception of this one guy on Friday night. He was a singer. He talked as much as he sang… we left in about 15 minutes in. All other shows were well worth the time for sure ( do not miss the magician )

· All the service was extraordinary. I cannot say enough about the MDR. Our waiter advised us on food choices, wine and what to see on the stops. He was spot on every time. I drank mostly beer all week but had a few fancy drinks…. I thought that they were a little light on the alcohol myself but hey…. I drank beer for the most part

· The food in the Windjammer was good. They did not mix it up much so you had to pick something and stick with that for the day. If you choose a little of each favorite each day I am sure you would be bummed after 7 days of the same stuff.

· The ship was very clean and the staff helpful and happy. The kids enjoyed all the boats toys ( rock climbing, putt putt golf, the gym, basketball and dodge ball and then the Flowrider ( what an awesome idea…. ) The thing had been around like 5 years and people still do not know how to dress for it. There were several wardrobe malfunctions to entertain the gallery… thanks ladies.

· We hit almost all the bars… went to Karioke, the casino, sports bar and watched some dancing lessons as well as ice skating. We also got to watch the Heat and Bulls play on the big screen outside one night and Dallas and Oklahoma another night. Loved it !

In all the experience was almost everything we could hope for and thought it was money well spent. We have done 5 cruises so far and this one ranked number 2 over all but I give the ship a number one. Will we do it again?

Damn right !

( remember this was MY personal experience….. I cannot speak for the other 4200 on the ship.)

Let me know if you need a little info on something… just might have it

Was also on this cruise and as the OP stated - Weather was great -- Ate at all venues -- DR, Windjammer, Johnny Rockets, Chops, Portifino's and in the promenade and all were good, if not great!!!

Ship was very clean -- Staff was super friendly!!

Check-in and disembarkment were smooth (smoothest I have ever encounted with RC).

My only complaint (which RC could not control) was the "lovebugs" on the first day -- YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lovebugs have been all over the last couple of weeks! They are called lovebugs because well... they are making love. They attach themselves to each other and fly around connected. One facing one way the other the opposite way. I believe they are actually in the ant family.. but they fly. They dont hurt you or bite you but when we have them they are litteraly all over like hundreds. They were litterally covering the exterior of my house last week.

Oh! We have love bugs in Texas too in the hot summer. You cannot go to a lake and not see them. We call them dragon flies. They ride on each others. They dont hurt. We dont have them cover the houses though. Try to enjoy their pretty colors :/?????

Having just experienced love bugs on this same cruise, they are not the same as dragon flies. I grew up with dragon flies, and remember them riding on each other. Long body, colorful, etc..

Love bugs kinda attach end to end, they are small and black. Disgusting in quantities. We were on board for a B2B, and could not wait for our private pool time on turn around day. Not to be had, as the bugs had taken over. We had experienced some of them when we arrived for the May 8th leg of the cruise, but they were nothing like they were on the May 15th turn around day. So much for a relaxing day in the hot tub   !
