snorkel vest?

Probably a silly question, but what is a snorkel vest? I've seen this in several posts, but I'm not familiar with it. We'll be on our first caribbean cruise. Most of our snorkel experience was in Hawaii.

Also - most ship sponsored excursions that include snorkeling require you to wear a vest (which they provide), although you don't have to blow it up if you don't want to and it doesn't add boyancy unless you do.

I don't like wearing them as I find I float just fine in salt water and vest makes it hard to dive down - which I do a little while snorkeling. But some people like the security a vest offers. Could be that I might be carrying just enough body fat to have my own built in vest:rolleyes:
