deborahjo Posted May 30, 2011 #51 Share Posted May 30, 2011 We have always changed to something more comfortable. We have always dressed for formal night and hubby is ready to get out of his tux after dinner and pictures. He wears a tux or a suit most of the time so he is ready for comfortabe clothes. My dresses will not keep me warm in the shows so I go change to something warmer. I always have a sweater no matter where I go in the evening. jonbgd Posted May 30, 2011 #52 Share Posted May 30, 2011 Shorts are allowed on causal nights, but not recommended on Elegant Night. "Recommended", that's not a statement of disallowing shorts, they just prefer you not wear them. So, sometimes I do and some times I wear dockers. It just depends on my particular mood at the time. I wouldnt wear shorts in the MDR for dinner. Thats just me. Everyone is different and reponsible for their own actions. But I was taught, anyone can have style, it takes a gentleman to have class. billnheather Posted May 30, 2011 #53 Share Posted May 30, 2011 Ok so I have read all the bickering about shorts in the dining room and during elegant nigh.t The following comes from Carnival: Both dress codes for the dining rooms are described below. Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs). Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men and baseball hats. Cruise Elegant Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Dress slacks, dress shirts. We also suggest a sport coat. If you wish to wear suits and ties or tuxedos, by all means we invite you to do so. Ladies - Cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; if you‘d like to show off your evening gowns, that's great too! Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Elegant dinner for ladies and gentlemen: shorts, gym shorts, T-shirts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, jeans, cut-off jeans, sleeveless shirts for men, sportswear, and baseball hats. In causal dining you are allowed dress shorts but no shorts are in elegant dining. But do you think the cruise line is really going to turn down the people that disrespect this, no, they are a business and if a certain class of people do not want to participate in the fun evening they will not turn them away.
