best way to get around

Hello, My family will be in San Juan Friday through Sunday. I was wondering about the best way to get around. I know we will have to take a taxi from the airport but after that what is best. We are staying at the Radisson Ambassador. Will we need to take a taxi every time we go downtown or is there any other type of public transportation? Just trying to save a little money since there are five of us. I would appreciate any help.

Last time I was in Puerto Rico we rented a car from Charlie car rental they pick you up from the airport and they drop you off at the cruise port. They do have buses but would not use them you will be waiting a long time.
