Cable Beach

With all the new posts on the issue of using the beach in front of the Radisson and Crystal Palace, where would you be dropped off by the bus and where would you enter the beach without taking the risk of being "kicked off" Is there just a public beach in the vacinty that offers all the perks of island life (food, drinks, annoying venders, water sports?).

Just ask the driver to let you off at the Cable Beach Hotels, as you approach, you will see them on the right. Just say "Stop" if he doesn't remember (most likely most of the jitney will empty out here). Just cross the street and enter thru the lobby of either the Nassau Beach Hotel (entry is to the right down ) or Wyndham (entry is thru the casino and out the back). If you are kicked off either, just wander down the beach a few meters - it's public until you reach Breezes. (hint- as long as you are sipping a drink from their bar, or order some lunch, noone will ask you to leave)

Thanks Scuba Girl - A few more questions - how long does it take to get to Cable Beach? What is your recommendation for food on the beach? When you say the Jinty will be emty out here - what are you referring to? How many people does it hold?

Thanks !

The Jitney (small bus) holds about 28 people. The #10 will pick you up in front of the McDonalds just opposite the British Colonial Hilton and take you to Cable Beach. The ride should take about 12- 15 minutes. Since most folks are heading to the Cable Beach Hotels, most will be disembarking at your stop or the next one.

I'm not that familiar with food on the beach at Cable. I usually go to Cafe Johnny Canoes (in front of the nassau beach hotel) and grab a slice of macaroni and cheese or some conch fritter and eat on the beach. They may great hickory burgers also.

I assume the grills on the beach have burgers, cracked conch (beaten, dipped in flour/spices and deep fried), conch fritters, grouper fingers and chicken fingers.. that's kinda the staple.

A couple of hours on a beach in Nassau would be paradise to most people, but if your not up for it, you may want to stay closer to your ship.

If you just want to check out a local beach without amenities or fanfare, walk west (take a right from the dock) past the British Colonial Hilton and you'll find a public beach.

You can add this to your shopping, lunch or historic walking tour and have a nice day in Nassau. Since most Bay Street Shopping usually ends at the British Colonial, you only have another couple of blocks to walk before you hit the beach.

Question: Is there a way to get to Cable beach without going through any of the hotels?

I'm travelling with about 10 family members ages 11-58 and don't want the hassle of being kicked out by a hotel and having to pack up and "try" another hotel and have the same thing happen.

Help...

Unfortunately, the hotels take up most of the length of the beach. If you enter thru the Nassau Beach Hotel, and go to your right, there's an area in front of the old Rock and Roll Club which is deserted. No chaises, no umbrellas, no bathrooms etc. Just a stretch of beach between the NBH and Breezes. This is a busy strip, since most of the jet ski vendors are nearby. OR... you can walk down past Breezes and hang out. Of course, you won't have lifeguards, or any other amenities.
