transfer venice airport to ship

we were worried about our transfers to magnifica from venice airport. they were not included in our package.msc and virgin told us the water taxi £££

was the only bookable option with them or we would be able to hire a land taxi under our own steam.luckily we went to the msc kiosk and were able to buy seats on the msc land transfer bus which took us to the ship.msc rep will tell you where the kiosk is.for our return we booked seats at the recepion desk onboard.no money was exchanged it went on our account.

it was 30 euro return each which was less than a taxi and a lot less than a virgin water taxi transfer.also baggage hadling was kept to a minimin.

Why spend 30 E when you can take the bus and only pay 5E? Use bus #5 which runs directly to Venice from the airport... It is less than 100 steps to the MSC shuttle to the doc which is free. The bus trip will take about 30 minutes and it has an area for baggage.

I've never been there, but before booking our cruise, we read about the local buses that can take you from the airport to the docks. I think there are two or three different buses (they each have a different color) that range from 3€ to 5€, depending on the length of their route.

 

Turns out we didn't have to worry about that, because transfer was included in our package. However, if it hadn't been, we probably would have taken one of those.

Depends where in Venice you will be. San Marco, lets say, has a vaporetto line which drops you near the terminal. If not, you can take another vaporetto that drops you near Piazzeta Roma and from there you can take the free shuttle bus to the cruise terminal.

 

You can also book a water taxi but those cost 100 US Dollars or more.

A taxi is a pretty reasonably priced way to get the airport (35E) for more than one person cost wise. Buses - as others note - are very inexpensive.

 

If Venice means going by water (as a romantic). The 'waterworks' isn't really as bad a cost as many presume; more expensive than buses for sure but not outlandish.

 

The airport waterbus http://www.alilaguna.it charges 24E pp round trip online or 13E pp each way purchased pierside (and you end up with a water tour of Venice). The piers are an easy 5-8 minute walk from the terminal, well marked and semi-covered.

 

Watertaxis are expensive but (3/10) the pierside price was either 85E or 95E into the city which probably includes the cruise terminal. Now that sounds high but that price is for the boat - or 6-8 travelers. The group I was with took a watertaxi from our hotel to the ship (and it was pricey 120E) but it was hotel booked and we had the guy slow motor the grand canal - and it dropped us off right at the ship. The price covered 10 people - so a vaporetto would've cost half that - and we were picked up at the door of the hotel and delivered right to the ship. My point is - don't completely dismiss water taxis if you are with a group. They can be a reasonably good value for 2-3 couples (but not as cheap as the traghetti :D). The alilaguna is a very good way into the city since it costs about the same as a bus plus a vaporetto (without multiple transfers).
