We have always gotten our luggage very quickly. Usually it is setting outside our door when we get back to our room from eating and exploring. Although i'm sure some luggage does not get to the rooms in a timely manner. I think you should have it by dinner and you should have time to get ready. The first night is never a formal night so no major primping required....

The first night on any cruise ship is very "laid back" and you can go to the dining room dressed as you are - - - they understand you might not have your luggage yet - we didin't have ours, and you see lots of jeans on the 1st and last nights.
