No more Smoking inside/outside cabins....balconies only (except for spa)

I can see it having an increased effect on "balcony smoke" complaints here on the boards, though.

...And on the ships. On our most recent cruise, I talked briefly to the man in the cabin above us (both balconies) to let him know that we were smokers but to let us know if our smoke was getting to him when we were out there...and that we'd find a compromise. He said he had his own compromise...he was going to throw garbage and water bottles at me if I was out on the balcony smoking. Nice.

Just came off the spanish cruise line Pullmantur Horizon. No Americans on board except us and maybe four others. I was surprised about their smoking policies.

All inclusive, lots of drinking and smoking.

No smoking inside or on Balconies.

Not in Casino or cigar bar.

Only on outside decks, starboard side.

I was still able to smoke over a pack a day. :(:(

It isn't a matter of winning or losing. They moved them to a smaller venue. The cigar bars have vast amounts of underutilized space.

I'd prefer that actually.

Our experience on the Freedom, with the huge cigar bar, but the moronic, non-smokers, walking through the Carnival designated smoking lounge, to get to the dining room, made for a less than enjoyable smoking experience.

I preferred the cigar/sports bars on the Fantasy class ships.

Those were smaller and perfect, IMHO.

John's site is overloaded and so is Carnival but he has the news on his facebook page

Good deal....no more smoking in piano bar, inside/outside cabins....

balcony only

wonder how/if they will monitor this?? Maybe they should have sprinklers "go off" if someone smokes in a cabin and then charge them for it??

I have had balconies 2x but don't use that much since I am single and I am out and about....not going to sit around on a balcony with a gal pal, thanks LOL>> so it really doesn't matter to me

I will say....I have been predicting this and yeah, I was right..

My guess is it will only get tighter and tighter rules on smokers....for those who cry that they will "go elsewhere"....gotta wonder where....

Princess is banning all cabin smoking in Oct....

Carnival was the most "liberal" line....well now they are coming around too

Have to laugh at those who say "Carnival loves smokers'>> guess they don't love them too much LOL

and if smokers don't obey the balcony only rule and continue to stink up the hallways guess they will tighten it further

Oh get over yourself Esty, it's no big deal that smokers can't smoke inside their staterooms, heck I don't smoke inside my own home, I go outside. So, when cruising, yes I will smoke on my balcony. Now for all you non-smokers who book balconies, oh well, tough! And yes, no more playing nice i.e., asking permission, ect., I'm so sick of these smoking threads and how ugly they turn that it just makes me want to book a cruise right now and get on my balconly and puff away LOL!

Of course, they had no choice but to walk through cancer city if they wanted to get to the Internet cafe.

The sports bars are really casino bars, and on Fantasy Class, cigars will only be permitted outside in designated areas.

My husband's a smoker, but we won't be going out of our "gords" - or gourds either - because of the new policy. He has never smoked in a cabin, only on our balcony. As far as public areas, he only smokes on the starboard side of the lido anyway, so no biggie. Times change, and smoking is becoming less popular. No doubt, it's a good business decision on Carnival's part.

That is the ONLY problem I have with smoke on the boats - smoking in the cabins & simply because the air units are attached so it will pull the smoke into neighboring cabins pretty heavy. I just put a post up about that on the Sensation a few weeks ago - which I also let Carnival know about & they even pulled up blue prints. Carnival did all they could to help, but it was the way the system was built & we were forced to keep our a/c off. I am very glad they did this. :D

As a non-smoker, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. On another post, I read someone saying they can't wait to get on their cabin and watch thier smoke drift to other balconies (implying they're now looking forward to disturbing people who don't smoke).

I grew up in with parents who smoked...in the car...with the windows up. As a result, I'm pretty sensitve to it now.

I was hoping on my upcoming cruise, I would be able to work out some sort of a compromise if I were near it - unfortunately from what it appears, it's all-out war between the smokers and non so that may be out of the question.

Unfortunately, if you're a non-smoker and down-wind, you lose.

My wife is a smoker and never smokes in the cabin but only on our balcony. Also the rules about smoking in public areas seem to be about right. We find rules fair to all and not overly restrictive.

This is a hard question and striking the right balance will test corporate decision making.

Sad to get that response, but not unexpected at all. I am a non-smoker but I did smoke for years and notice smokers for the most part trying to have their own space (not yours) in peace. If anyone said that to me, I'd go buy a pack of cigars and an umbrella.

It's the gaggy perfumes that give me a headache (but that's another thread). I've watched from the sidelines and seen much more venom against smokers than any other group. When non-smokers come to the smoking area to cough and complain and gag, that's just more than silly.

Yes, I know. They are RUINING your cruise and you'll never cruise again, blah, blah, blah.

In my experience, it's only a war on these boards. In reality, people I've met on Carnival cruises are very courteous.

Even though this board is really contentious about the smoking issue, most cruisers are nice enough people, and chances are you won't have a problem. I think the "smoking wars' are mostly in people's heads - or maybe the battles are waged onboard after a few too many DODs - in which case, it's probably better for both sides to retreat to their cabins and sleep off the hostility. Have fun on your cruise!

I was a smoker of 39 years (16 years smoke free now). I know if I was a smoker still I would be unhappy with this I'm sure. However in the 3 cruises I have been on (1 balcony) the smoke has been bad only in the casino. I have lung disease and am not suppose to be around smoke but I did not let that spoil my cruise. Do I like the new rules, yes, however I can relate to the non smokers. What I can't understand is the ones that say they don't smoke in their own homes or cars. Why is that the bad smell or the fact that it coats everything dark gold. When I smoke I did in my home my car or any other place I could, I realize times have changed and I certainly wish I had listen to the warnings on our health for years, then I could also run and play with my grandchildren instead of wheezing and gasping for breath. Don't let smoking ruin your cruise and your life.

illinoismomof4 - I am going to start a writting to complain about perfums,. After shave, cologne and laundry as it sets my migrains off and I can't enjoy being around any one who uses things that smell.

I LOVE THE ABOVE COMMENT! :D It never fails at the Safety Drill someone stands either in front or next to me wearing way to much perfum, body spray or cologne. This of course starts me sneezing which earns me dirty looks and gives me a horrid headache causing me to take medication. Which now means I can't have a DOD and end up going to bed early as it also makes me sleepy. At least with the smoke you can avoid the areas where it's allowed. At the safety drill I'm kind of stuck standing there. :(

And don't start about balconies as on one of our last cruises the people on the next balcony would cough and hack everytime my husband lit up..........funny thing was he was at the other end of the balcony from them and downwind so they were not getting any of the smoke!! I don't smoke he does, but one of my biggest pet peeves is that when sitting outside on Lido deck in a smoking area it's non fail someone comes and sits at the next table and complains about the smoke! Well DUH it is a smoking area don't complain move to the Port side where it's non-smoking. He hasn't smoked in the cabin for over 6 years now and as for the Casino it seems there have been non-smoking areas in most of them for a few years now. So those changes are not a big deal. IMHO the only problem I can see is the indoor smoking areas which are now fewer than before will be packed if the weather is bad and open decks are wet from the fact it's raining or closed due to high winds. (and yes it does happen we have been on ships where all open decks are closed due to high winds)

Well, you weren't with us on the Dream. We sat on the smoking side but no one in our group smoked. We had gone out to play cards and get some sun and there were plenty of tables everywhere.

Several people came by and complained about the people at the table next to us smoking. Cough, cough, oh this is awful, how can they do that, let's get out of here.
Yes, do.

But for the MOST part, I agree. People are generally courteous. GENERALLY.
