No more Smoking inside/outside cabins....balconies only (except for spa)

It's only a matter of time, but we have to keep letting Carnival know it is an issue.

Carnival has already stated that they will never go smoke free as they are a family cruise-line and if even one member of a family smokes then they will not even consider carnival for vacationing.

Over the years I have seen smokers adapt to whatever laws have been passed. They survive.

I can recall the outrage when MD went smoke free nearly 20 years ago. Smokers could not and I still do not understand lawmakers logic in one law. Simply put a in the state of MD a smoker cannot go into a restaurant at breakfast and have a cup of coffee and a smoke. BUT a non-smoker can go into a bar that by law is SMOKE-FREE get drunk and go out driving and kill someone. Another MD law states if a smoker driving their own car transports co-workers to the job that private owned car is now extended work place and the owner and occupants can not smoke in it. So not all laws make sense but the SMOKERS adapt.

On the same token there will never be anything to please a non-smoker because even when restrictions are made they are NEVER good enough. JMHO

Oh good lord:rolleyes: Just like the 5 people in the cabin cheapo.....just stay home and save a little more for your balcony cabin......

I really think some people on here should not be cruising due to finances......don't flame me because it is my very humble opinion.....

I see more Princess cruises in my future....

Seriously

Not finances , only two in room , and I am typicaly a tightwad , this is all about control , they can control this , I can control that .

Nicotine must kill brain cells...Anyone who would hate this policy, and still cruise on the line BUT cheat the crew out of tips is just ....well, there you go. I can't think of a word to fit.

I am looking forward to sitting out on my balcony this October on the Pride and chain smoking..matter of fact, I have one of the VS suites booked which has a 225 sq ft balcony and can easily hold 20-30 people..think I will invite the smokers over to my balcony!

Thats rude.. him not you!

We have had basically the same thing said to us before when we tried to be nice to the neighbors. I really used to stick to cigar bars while smoking my cubans however now it will be on the balcony as it will be one of the only places that it is designated as ok.........I understand that my neighbors may not like it but Carnival has made the policy and as I said it is one of the very few places it will be allowed

Ok, now I am sure nicotine kills brain cells.

I posted that smoking was banned on public beaches here because the smokers tossed their butts all over and people got sick of cleaning up after them....self imposed ban basically.

Now, if you were actually able to do what you posted above...and for every other smoker on these boards who posted something similar, how long do you think it would take before acts like one you proposed wind up causing CCL to ban smoking on the balconies as well???

You seriously all deserve every restriction you get.

I'm a smoker and I'm not bothered by the new policy. I think it is more than fair. I never smoked in my cabin anyway and I don't smoke in my home either.

You have touched on something I've been wondering about while reading all of these threads about the new smoking policy. I am wondering about two things:

1) How many of those bothered by the new smoking policy are upset because smoking will no longer be permitted in cabins OR are you upset because smoking has been prohibited in some of the lounges?

2) And, (for those who are upset because smoking will no longer be permitted in cabins), do smoke inside your home, or do you go outside to smoke?

I am just curious and make no judgement. Only interested in statistics.

I think it's more just plain shock because they NEVER thought that CCL would give them more restrictions. if you read any of the old smoking threads the smokers were pretty darn confident that CCL was smoker-friendly. Now, CCL tightened up a bit and they're pissed, just on principal.

I haven't read the press release myself, but others are saying that Princess is becoming completely non-smoking (including balconies). If that rumor is true, then it isn't so incredible to believe that Carnival will do the same in the not-too-distant future.

The cabins on Princess are all non smoking...including the balconies....they will still have designated areas to smoke...just not in the cabins

incidentally....most cabins on Princess are balconies.....they have very few outside cabins , some insides but mostly balconies

Since Carnival corporate owns them all, I think they did this so that Princess would not be overwhelmed with balcony smokers. HAL (*also Carnival Inc)....is going to no smoking in cabins but will allow on the balcony

I don't even think that cruiselines will go totally non smoking anytime soon....but I don't expect they will turn these rules around.

As a smoker, I am ALMOST happy with the new smoking policy. I wish they would have made it that only balconies on one side (Starboard perhaps) are smoking balconies. Then leave the other side (Port) as non-smoking balconies. Truly, the non-smokers out number smokers in the world so make more non smoking places. But leave smoking areas easily accessable for the smokers.

One more reason for me NOT to pay extra for a balcony. And I am glad Carnival is tightening the rules, they may have a hard time selling their progressive ideas in Europe, but I hope they do great.

Europe is following down the same path as the US with smoking restrictions. Several countries and cities have passed laws increasing restrictions.

Princess will always be gun shy over smoking. Star Princess nearly burnt to the waterline over a stray cigarette on a balcony.

I'm confused at this outrage - everyone realizes that Carnival didn't BAN smoking, right?

I have smoked for the last 7 years and living in a smoke-free state, I have spent many cold/rainy/snowy times outside smoking a cig. I have no problem doing it on a beautiful cruise ship where the sun is usually shining!

I can't imagine that people would really cancel a cruise because they couldn't smoke in their rooms. Would you quit your job because you couldn't smoke inside the office? Cruising is so wonderful and I think all smokers should realize that everything you experience on a cruise should FAR outweigh not being able to smoke in your room.

That is what I've never understood either. Why wouldn't a line choose to designate port/starboard, whichever, as a 'smoking' balcony side?

BTW, non smoker here (just in case anyone was wondering)

This MAY be the case, but I asked my specific question from a curiosity and statistical standpoint, thus I am wondering if the two (specific) points I raised applies to anyone reading this thread.

I was a smoker for 35 years. Nine months ago I quit smoking using a Personal Vaporizer [also known as an E-cigg] I didn't smoke in the cabin and was considerate to non smokers. I love my P.V. and now I am a non smoker and smoke don't bother me either.

Congratulations!:D I hit the 2 year mark of being smoke free using an e-cig :)

Do you really think that stiffing the people who work so hard to make your cruise great is "controlling" Carnival???

Oh no!! We hardly ever get a balcony but have one for our upcoming cruise.

Good idea to be smoking balconies on the starboard or port only. Not all balconies.

We have never had any problem with smoke except one table we had in the dining room, right across the hall from a night club or cigar bar...Every night late dining we would get a blast of it..

Although I'm bothered by the upcoming no smoking in cabins allowed policy, I will abide by the rules and smoke on the balcony (and any and all of the other areas it is allowed on the ship). Yes, we do smoke inside of our home.

Prohibiting smoking in the larger lounges is a good thing I guess. We usually don't go in those anyway. No more smoking in the piano bar? Not a big deal because the last three piano players we saw had no personality, and had very little interaction with the crowd (and at times they were crowded, even with the smokers there).

I've written this on other posts about the cigar bars, esp on the Destiny, Triumph and Conquest class ships:.... I understand making the current lounges nonsmoking because there are some people who need/want to use the Internet Lounge and you have to go through the bar to get there. My idea would be to make one of the smaller aft clubs on the Promenade Deck the new cigar bar. The venue can be isolated (there is a door that can be closed). It's large enough to accommodate some nice large chairs, as well as a soft jazz/latin combo.

I do hope the smoking restrictions in the casino are not too extreme however. I don't play table games. I do like to smoke when playing slot machines though. Maybe I won't be spending as much money in the casino. Will have to see how things go.

First, we're used to nonsmoking bars and restaurants. Even on RCCL in their public inside smoking venues (and there are a few left), we left and went outside since it just feels funny these days to smoke in a space that is as public as a bar. It even felt funny to us in the casino...so we don't do it there, either.

We do smoke in our home.
