Handicapped Parking At Port Canaveral

My wife and I will be driving from Maryland to Port Canaveral for our June 2nd sailing on the Carnival Dream. Due to my wife's disability, we have Handicapped Tags and the suv is modified with a scooter lift and scooter and the driver's seat and pedals are raised so she can drive it. My question is do we just have to show them that for the free parking or what else do they require? Thanks for your help.

heres what their site says. I have the toll permit since i'm from Fl but sounds like you'll be fine.

 

 

Special parking spaces are provided. The parking fee is waived for vehicles that:

1. Have special equipment such as ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls; or

2. Display the Florida Toll Exemption permit. (Call 800-983-2435 ext. 2 to apply for an exemption form.)

Do you know if you use a manual wheelchair if they waive the fee? We are going on a cruise this upcoming weekend and my hubby is making me try to get into a shuttle at the hotel to save the money for parking. This is a total embarassment for me to have my family try to lift and push me into the vans they usually have. TIA

Only if the car is modified in some way for the wheelchair/scooter. I did not get the free parking when we chose to drive our Prius to the port rather than the lift equipped SUV. I had the handicapped tag and even bought a picture of the SUV with lift. I didn't expect to get free parking and I didn't. If the hotel offers a free shuttle to the port for the non-handicapped they are required to provide accessible transfer if needed.

I don't care about free parking but is other handicapped parking available? Just like you would find at an airport for instance?

You can use the handicapped parking if you have the appropriate permit, it's just not free unless you require modifications for the sake of a chair, etc. The parking is generally most of the front row closest to the terminal of outside parking, along the edge of the garage, or the row closest to the terminal inside the garage. There are plenty of parking guys who can point you to the right sections.

I had to pay to park there last year and I drive a big van with a hang tag and my WC DD was in the back. I didn't know to ask about free parking, wish I had! They certainly didn't offer it. I have already checked into the parking in Miami and have everything their website says they require. I will post back how that works out for us!!
