legalwife Posted June 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2011 Well, we endured the five hour flight and are checked in. Front desk staff of one was very, very nice. We have a "balcony room" on the tenth floor. Wall at top of building going all the way around the not private but shared balcony with the other rooms so you can't see down like a typical balcony. Chairs out there to sit and nice to have fresh air. In king room, no coffee maker, nice whirlpool tub and king bed. Room not very large but that is okay because it is very charming with its historical decor. Lobby very nice too. Would stay here again. Rite Aid is a block away and we bought wine and stuff there earlier today to take aboard ship. They do not sell beer or liquor but there are some shops in the area that do. Walked down to waterfront and had delicious clam chowder and salmon. Good jaunt down but definitely do-able unless you have health issues. Will check out the free downtown area bus tomorrow as walking up hill on way back was tough. Just zig zag and you can make it - like go over a block and then up a block. Pastry/dessert shop right next door and will walk down there for coffee and dessert in a bit. We must start our food intake conditioning for the cruise. Have seen some shorts, but jeans were great for me. DH had on shorts and was a bit chilly and he never is. Was glad we had light jackets. Just a little report for your info...

Or just use one of several "inside passage" routes, e.g. waterfront to Federal Building at First and Marion, ride the elevator to the Second Avenue level, cross the street to the Wells Fargo Tower, escalator/elevator from the Second Avenue level to the Third Avenue level, out the door, cross the street, and it's a block and a half downhill to the Arctic (Club) Building. If you haven't seen it yet, ask if you can go up to the Dome Room in the Arctic Building. Dynamite space.
Jen1000 Posted July 4, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2011 Yes, ask at the front desk if the Dome Room is open. When my Dad stayed there we went to see it and it is worth a visit.
