Happy ks Posted March 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Go early and don't take any carry ons, not even a camera bag (you can take the camera). Usually, because of time adjustments, your first morning in Hawaii will be a very early one (we're from the west coast and are up by 4am). We take a walk on the beach, have breakfast and are ready for anything by 6am. If you don't get there early, say by 7am, you will have long lines and a long wait. Fortunately, it is a very pleasant place to wait.
Host Karen Posted March 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2005 We did Pearl Harbor on our own on an Infinity cruise in December and arrived at 9:15 a.m. We waited on line for about 15 minutes to get a number and were in the theater within an hour. The line to get tickets was about the same length when we left.
Roselin Posted March 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2005 There are many tours available if they want to see more than just Pearl Harbor. We booked a Stars & Stripes tour through Aloha Island Tours and enjoyed it very much. The tour picks up at various Waikiki locations. Besides Pearl Harbor, it includes a guided tour of the USS Missouri, a drive through other parts of Honolulu, and a guided tour by an American Legion veteran of Punchbowl Cemetary. wwinfl91 Posted March 24, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2005 The tour at the Arizona monument and then a tour of the Missouri and the Bonefish (submarine) monument are definitely worth visiting even if you aren't a WWII veteran. My wife and I did it on an Island Princess Hawaiian cruise last fall and had a very inspiring visit. Have a great next cruise.
cruisergirl46 Posted March 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2005 looking to organise excursion for my parents to pearl harbour in april any advice please We just got back. Got to the Memorial at 8:20am and waited in line for about 10 minutes - then had a 2 hour wait for the memorial. We rented the headphones and did the audio tour for about an hour - well worth it. Get there early if you don't want to wait, and like someone else said - you can't take in any bags. There are lockers across the parking lot if you want to store things while you visit. We also did the sub and Mighty Mo. Worth it.
rjscott Posted March 25, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2005 Jackie, if you think they'd like an in-depth tour, Home of the Brave is a great tour! They pick up at your hotel and take you to Pearl Harbor first, so that you are in the first group to see the orientation film and on the first shuttle to the Arizona. The tour also visits some of the military bases, like Hickam Field and Schofield barracks. The guides are highly knowledgeable about the events leading up to the attack on PH and the history of the era. Here's the website: http://www.pearlharborhq.com We did this tour during our precruise and thought it was outstanding. Becki
