ANYTHING to do in Freeport? ANYTHING?

Looking for something to do our port day in Freeport? Give any and all suggestions please. We will have a 23 mth old with us but he never "holds" us back...we take him to anything that allows children (hence a cruise). RCCI doesn't seem to have great excursions for Freeport so that makes me wonder if there is anything? Any resorts with day passes?

We're going to Freeport and Nassau on our cruise in June. I've kinda figured out that we're just gonna "hang out" on our Freeport day (maybe take a stoll through just to say we've been there) . . . spending most of our time onboard. We're concentrating our focus on Nassau since we'll be spending the day at Altantis!!!!! :D

Sorry I can't answer your question but . . . I'm a newbie and don't know much except what I'm learning on this board!!! :p

I have been trying for weeks to get the answer to your question. I have found nothing worth while doing in grand bahama island, as they call it now. I have thought about either staying onboard or taking a taxi to Paradise Cove.

I have been unsuccessful at getting info on Paradise Cove.

When is your sailing?

This is the worst port to go to in my opinion. There is not much to do. You have to take a taxi into town. Where you dock there is basically nothing. You will see many retired ships docked ex (Big Red Boat). You have to take a taxi to get into town. Besides the straw market you can go to Port Lucaya there are many stores here and a gambling casino. I will be on the Fantasy in May and this is one of our ports.

OUr ship made an unscheduled stop in Freeport due to Hurricane Emily in July. We had no time to research so we had to depend on the cruise ship excursions. Our group of 9 includes 2 sets of parents and 5 boys (ages 12, 15, 16, 19, and 23) We boked the Tranquility Shores Beach Break through CCL. It included lunc and a drink. Busses transported poeple to beach (about 25 min. drive) with lots of industry and poor housing in between. We went by the market area and it looked nice.

The beach we were at was lovely. Very clean. No soliciters on beach (all had tables outsdide the bar/resturaunt area), chairs included, and a band on the beach. There were no ocean toys but you could rent jet skis or an inflatable tube ride. No shade on the beach, but a covered, open air bar/buffet area right on the beach.

When we got to Freeport, a couple of bands met the ships and that area came alive really quickly. We had a great day. It was worth the trip. Have fun.

We are going to be there on the 9th and are planning to catch a ride up to Lucayan National Park. I have a friend who has a condo in Freeport and she said it is beautiful. Fodor's travel guide also lists it as the place to see so that is our plan for the day. If you are on a Carnival ship they have alot of shore excursions for Freeport check out the website.

We booked an excursion through Celebrity for a kayaking trip through Lucayan National Park. We kayaked for about 1 1/2 hours through a mangrove forest, took a short ride to a beach for a simple lunch of sandwiches and then toured a few caves and saw some trees, etc. We ended up really enjoying ourselves. Two people to a kayak and you do need to be somewhat fit to finish, my arms were pretty tired at the end.

For those who don't want to do an excursion, I would think you could take a taxi to the beach we were on, although you would probably need to have them meet you at a particular time. We didn't see too much traffic when we got near the park. The underground caves we toured are across the street from the entrance to the beach. It was about a 45 minute ride each way so keep that in mind.

Hi we will be there in January. Googld Freeport Shore Excursions and you'll gat a page of things to do: Biking, fishing, dolphin encounters, tours, snorkeling, golfing, beach party, glassbottom boat (great for kids). Enjoy. jo
