Caye Caulker Questions

My wife and I will be going to Belize on the Valor at the end of May and I have a couple of questions.

First we are not big on the excursions, we kind of like to do things at our own speed. We would like to go to Caye Caulker but I am nervous about getting back to the ship on time. Is the water taxi reliable and how is the ride?

Also we like to hang out at the beach and have drinks and things. Are all the beaches public and are there beach bars and things?

Anything you can tell me about Caye Caulker would be welcome. Thanks

We're not big on shore sponsored excursions, but this is one port we're doing one through the ship. In addition, when we sail to Belize, we'll be 2 hours ahead of Belize local time. They don't observe daylight saving time. Try doing a search on Caye Calker and see what you find. Not sure about ferry times, etc. I believe Coral Breezes has a beach day at Caye Calker. That would include your transportation but still have the flexibility of doing your own thing. Even though Coral Breeze is an independent operator, it would probably be more reliable than trying to do the ferry, etc. on your own. Not sure if that is even available as I remember some other posts??

Read my review for some info on Caye Caulker.

It's not a "beachy" island since it is surrounded by sea grass. The only swimming is done at the split from a concrete slab/dock. I wouldn't suggest this island if you are looking for a tropical spot where you can lounge in the sand and surf.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

I agree with Grizzy......this island may not be what you are looking for as a beach hangout. Coral Breeze is the way to go should you decide to go there. The stingray/shark swim is incredible.....only about 4 feet of water, very non strenuous! The other part of the tour is snorkeling the barrier reef and it is a strenuous swim, but boat is nice hangout if you didn't want to do that half of the excursion. Good Luck in your decisions!
