kajasmin Posted July 11, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2011 My little ones will be going with us to xuantunich, they are very excited because it seems like an "Indiana Jones adventure" to them... I've been reading up, how dangerous is the climb on xuantunich?
1sttimeAlaska Posted July 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2011 We went to Xunantunich in May 2009. Because there had been an earthquake in the area earlier in the day, they had closed the largest temple, El Castillo, while they did an inspection for damage. So we were unable to climb up past the first few steps on that one. However, we were able to climb the smaller structures. I think your kids would LOVE to climb these ruins, depending on how small they are. Under age 7 would be fine if holding an adult's hands. The steps are large and not TOO steep. Also the hand-cranked ferry to get to the ruins is interesting. The bus ride is long, though, but in air-conditioning. Our guide gave us much information about the country and the ruins on the ride out there, and stayed quiet on the way back, as most of us slept.
