Chateau D'if and Little Train

I am thinking of doing the following in Marseille next June. We will arrive via cruise ship and are in port from 7am-4pm.

shuttle to Old Town (can we walk?) Then take ferry to Chateau D'if. What is the cost per person? Then tour the prison returning by ferry to old town.

Then we would take the Little train to the Cathedral, after that returning to the old town area to walk around for a while before heading back to the ship.

Would we be able to walk to the cathedral instead of taking the train? I am traveling with husband and two teens and would like to keep the costs down.

It's rather far to walk from the cruise terminal to the town. I wouldn't recommend it. I'm afraid the cruise shuttle or a taxi are the options here. :(

You can get a family boat ticket to the Chateau d'If. Cost 7.50 Euros. http://www.frioul-if-express.com/presentation/?rub_code=74

I believe admission to the Chateau itself costs extra. More info on the Chateau: http://www.marseille-provence.info/marseille-marseilles/what-to-see-tourist-attractions/50-the-chateau-dif-and-frioul-islands.html

You can walk from the Old Port to Notre Dame but it's up quite a long steep hill and can be pretty hot in summer. I suggest you treat yourselves to the Little Train. Admission to Notre Dame is free.

PS -- I've just noticed that you refer to the Cathedral. Do you mean Notre Dame, which is THE iconic church of Marseille? But it's not the cathedral, which is a different church altogether, and much less interesting

Thank you AngloinProvence.

Yes I do mean Notre Dame. Ok then I would taxi or shuttle to Old Port, catch the boat using the Family pass to Chataeu D'if. After that return to Old Port and catch the Little train to Notre Dame. Then return to Old Port for a return shuttle or taxi to the ship.

Do you know the costs of the shuttles or a taxi from the ship to Old Port.

I have begun to look into this again. Could I get a taxi from the cruise ship port directly to Notre Dame or is is too far to reasonablly go in a taxi?

Walk back down the hill to Old Port. I have read there are things to see along the way, but I can't seem to find the post. Once we arrive in the Old Port, have a light lunch and head via ferry to Chateau Dif for an hour or two. Return to Old Port and get a taxi to the ship.

Does this sound correct?

You could take a taxi from the cruise terminal to Notre Dame -- it is somewhat further than the Old Port, but you'd be saving on both time and the Little Train fare.

If you walk back down, the main thing to see is the beautiful old Saint Victor Abbey (plus you get very fine views of the Old Port at intervals). http://www.marseille-provence.info/marseille-marseilles/what-to-see-tourist-attractions/140-the-churches-of-marseille.html There's also a santons museum near the Abbey.

There is an entrance fee to the Chateau d'If, but nothing extra for the island of If (which really IS just the chateau -- there's not much else on it!)

Curious about the family boat ticket. On the website, it shows an individual ticket for 10 Euros, and a fmily ticket for 7.50. Seems strange that one person would pay 10, but (in our case) a family of 5 with an 11 year old would pay only 7.50 in total. Is the 7.50 supposed to be the total, or per person?
