Speedo Posted March 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2005 This should probably be obvious to seasoned cruisers but I can't figure out what people are referring to when they say Foo Foo drinks. I have read this in a number of posts but it has me stumped. Can anybody enlighten me? Also where does that expression come from?
Momto5boys Posted March 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2005 The type with an umbrella in it, usually! :) Mostly they are sweetened, frozen, etc. with lots of fruit juices or other exotic ingredients.
kathy7558 Posted March 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2005 I think it refers to the drinks with fruit and unbrellas, etc, rather than gin and tonic or rum and coke type drinks. And I thought the expression was Froo froo, which I've used to mean frilly or fancy with bows and ruffles - like on women's clothes. But I've seen it posted here both ways - with and without the "R" in it. Oh well,.................... :)
phlydude Posted March 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Mixed Fruity drinks - should really be Froo-Froo Blue Hawaiian, Pina Colada, Daquiri, etc. Not included - rum and coke, 7 & 7, jack on the rocks. etc.
tef43 Posted March 22, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2005 "Foo foo" = any wimpy drink short of a Hand Grenade. Also how mainstream cruiselines are referred to by Jammers.
Nonesuch Posted March 22, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Also where does that expression come from? The term Foo-foo refers to anything effeminate, "girlie" or overly fancy, such as french poodles. A real drink has at most two ingredients, the sole exception being beer, which has three. Speedo Posted March 22, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Thank you all for your responses. Sounds like something I should be staying away from. Yikes! Glad I didn't order one to find out what it was.

A real drink has at most two ingredients, the sole exception being beer, which has three. Who gets to define what a "real drink" is? Drink what tastes good to you or what tastes good where and when you are drinking. Orange juice or coffee with breakfast, milk with cookies, wine with dinner, sherry with dessert, cocktails at a cocktail party, beer at a superbowl party, or a refreshing foo-foo drink while lounging poolside on a cruise ship. Ehpride Posted March 22, 2005 #10 Share Posted March 22, 2005 Just because it's a "foo-foo" drink, doesn't mean that it's not a real drink!

Bloodies/Mimosas with breakfast, no cookies, lots of wine with dinner, port with dessert, cocktails at a cocktail party, beer at a superbowl party, or a bucket of beer while lounging poolside on a cruise ship.:D
