Getting from Miami airport to Fort Lauderdale

I'm one for planning ahead...we're cruising on the Zuiderdam 10/1/05 - flying into Miami but staying pre-cruise at the AmeriSuites in Fort Lauderdale (thanks, Priceline!) the night before. I've read about the shuttles, cabs, etc. to get from the hotel to the pier but am curious about the best way to get to the hotel from Miami airport. Renting a car seems a bit ridiculous - we get in around 5:30 pm and it sounds like there are plenty of places to grab dinner within walking distance of the AmeriSuites. Any advice?

Cabs would be very expensive. A rental car is possibly the cheapest (but not by much), and I agree it would be a pain. Personally I would take a shuttle or limo.

Yes, there are many restaurants within walking distance of the Amerisuites.
