Transfers Nice to Port Saint Louis

Looking for info regarding car rental or other transport from Nice to Port Saint Louis. We will be booking a river cruise through Provence sailing from south to north. We will most likely book Avalon which sails from Port Saint Louis. We would like to stay a few days in Nice, pre-cruise, which means we will have to procure our own transportation to the boat in Port Saint Louis. (Their pre-cruise offering is Monte Carlo). Does anyone have info on either renting a car (one way rental) from Nice to Port Saint Louis, or other transport to get us to the boat? We've found that there is train service to Marseille and then a bus from Marseille to Port Saint Louis, but the idea of schlepping our bags on train and bus is a downer for me, DH is all gung-ho. I don't want to be a princess, but I am hoping for other options. :)

Thanks!

Jacquie

Hi Jacquie,

We are doing the same river cruise on the Avalon Scenery next year, but from north to south. We would also be interested in getting information on a transfer from the Port of St. Louis to Nice. I think if you post your question on the River Cruise board, you may get more response.

I have since found that there are trains from Nice to Arles (with a change of trains in Marseille), Arles is closer to Pt Saint Louis, but I am not sure if it is possible to take just a taxi from the Arles train station to the boat.

I have not yet found car rental information.

hi,

the best would be to drive a rental car if you can drive stick. you can rent one way and pay a small premium for the one way part.

on the sixt.fr site you can plan a one way trip. renting an automatic is more expensive. you could drop of the car at marseille airport or city center and then get a bus.

i would say visit nice and aix-en-provence. you can go between nice and aix-en-provence by train and then maybe get a bus from aix to port-saint-louis as another option.

the nearest place you can drop your car off would be with ada at their istres office.

they are not open at the weekend.

My goodness, this is fantastic information French Al. Thank you so much! We decided to start our trip from Monte Carlo instead of Nice, just for ease of travel. We had driven through Nice two years ago, but did not stop and were hoping to spend some time there this time. That will have to wait. We are very excited about our river cruise, and yes, we will get to spend some time in Arles. Thank you so very much for the advice. :)
