Cruachan Posted July 22, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2011 I was working through some of my old photos from our QM2 cruise in 2010 and I stumbled on this one. Can anyone tell me what this place is - I don't remember taking the photo and I can't say what all these strange bits of machinery are for. Thanks A confused J
Rare BlueRiband Posted July 22, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2011 While I cannot be certain, you may have found the room with the rowing machines for the people in steerage. Either that, or they are the torture racks for anyone who claims that QG food always comes out cold. ;)
Classiccruiser777 Posted July 22, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2011 It appears to be some sort of museum to medieval torture devices.

But there's nobody there :D J
Salacia Posted July 22, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 22, 2011 I think I've heard that described as the place you go to lose a few Pounds...so it must be the Casino. :D

So those strange looking things are slot machines? J

Lanky Lad Posted July 22, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2011 Are you sure there was not a sign on the door saying "crew only"? It does not look like somewhere I would want to be.

Hey Lanky Lad, maybe there was a sign that read "crew only" to throw us off the track because it's a top secret layout of the new plans for the "Grill" lounge to be revealed after QM2's dry dock! Or maybe it's just a new way CCL has found to stretch a buck :D:eek:
Mister Chicken Posted July 23, 2011 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2011 I was working through some of my old photos from our QM2 cruise in 2010 and I stumbled on this one. Can anyone tell me what this place is - I don't remember taking the photo and I can't say what all these strange bits of machinery are for. Thanks A confused J Cruachan, Now I just happen to know what this room is used for since I was forced to use it once myself. After several days of dining onboard QM2, what happens is that one's diner suit naturally begins to change shape. For instance, mine began to shrink. Poor quality materials is the most likely cause. Thus, this room can be used to correct the irregular fit of one's suit, which is caused by any of the various normal distortions that the fabrics of a diner suit commonly are subjected to. The various devices you see in this photo simply perform the needed alterations to a diner suit by re-shaping and compressing the owner of the suit until his body conforms to the recently introduced distortions. The only alternatives to using this room are: (1) a tailor or (2) a cummerbund. :)

Stephen, I'm sure you're right, but the door was open and I guess I mustn't have seen the sign. I certainly looks like the sort of place that only crew members would enter. pepperrn Posted July 23, 2011 #16 Share Posted July 23, 2011 This was the forward muster station on my recent TA, note the lack of chairs for the rowers. I was told that, as a steerage passenger, in an emergency, this is where I should come to arrange deckchairs.

The Real PM Posted July 23, 2011 #18 Share Posted July 23, 2011 Are they showing the latest Transformer movie aboard the QM2? :) Regards,Jerry No that isn't a movie or anything like the movie. It is true, they are robots, and some are transformer types making their move luring in motivated physically fit individuals. When these most fit passengers are locked up in this location , they intend to mix and mingle with the less ambitious passengers learning the ins and outs of what makes us, earthly beings, tick. I don't know what their plan is after that because I left when they got to that part, but only after proving to them that I indeed was not one of the fit ones, and I would prefer not to go into how I proved that, but it wasn't very pleasant.
