Thinking about doing a 14 night Alaska from Vancouver to L.A. on the Summit. Anyone done this one before? What did you think? Have never sailed the Summit; what about her? Thanks for the help.

nsshel - If you are sailing on the 9/16/05 cruise, we are too. There's a roll call thread going on here:

We went to Alaska in May '04 on Mercury. It's well worth the return trip. We haven't sailed on Summit before, but some on the roll call thread have.

We are also on the 9/16/05 cruise. We did the cruise in 2003 and really loved it. Summit is a really nice ship and the itinerary is great. Alaska, the inside passage, Victoria (Butchard Gardens) Seattle ...a beautiful city, San Francisco(wow) Catalina(charming) and wonderful sea days. What more could one ask.

We didn't do the 14 day, but did the Northbound last summer. We throughly enjoyed the ship and the crew. The port that they added at Icy Straits Point went over very well with everyone that I have seen commenting on it.

We liked Icy Straits Point too. I wish our Sept. cruise was going there. We were there on the first cruise ship to visit the port (Mercury). The natives really appreciate the business. They fixed up the old cannery and surrounding area nicely. The whale watching trip was worth every penny of the cost. We saw so many whales that we lost count. The bear watch trip was nice with beautiful scenery, but we didn't see bears (wrong time of year). They were still working on improving the place while we were there, and there was talk of RCCL building a cruise ship dock at the island so as to avoid tendering. Only 1 ship per day can visit this location per agreements with the Tlingits.
