Cell phone usage

I will be sailing with a group of friends on the Fantasy in September on a 5 day to the Bahamas. We are all leaving our significant others & our kids behind. Does anyone know if Carnival has cell phone usage available during at sea days? I know some cruise lines do & some don't so just want to find out. If it's available, is it crazy expensive to send texts?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Yes, there is cellular service on the Fantasy. Carnival uses Cellular @ Sea. As for the charges, that will depend on your cellular carrier. Below are links for more info on charges on 4 US carriers.

AT&T

Sprint

T-Mobile

Verizon

Yep, you sure can use your cell phone. As was mentioned above, Cellular @ Sea provides satellite based cellular communication. The cost, billed directly to your provider, is $2.49/minute. Texts are $.05 inbound and $.50 outbound.

:)

You might find it more economical to purchase an international phone card and call from the islands.

Please be aware that your carrier will also charge you unless you have an international plan, which, most of us don't. The only time we used it was on the Glory a cople of years ago when we rescued some Cuban refugees in a sinking raft. This was our first cruise and we were so astounded that we just had to tell someone. We did text only and the bill was only a few dollars higher. Maybe you should get the internet plan so you could e-mail.
