Aplmac ... need help with Barbados ideas

Aplmac,

You are obviously the "go-to person" for Barbados, so I'm wondering if you can help us decide what we should do while in Barbados March 2012. We'll be on the Emerald/Princess sailing from Ft. Lauderdale 3/17/12.

 

We cruised the So. Caribbean in the early 90's which included Barbados, Antigua, St. Thomas, among others. We remember getting a cab and being driven to what we recall being a "downtown" area. Walked across a bridge, lots of concrete and buildings.

 

We'd like to see the island this time. We arrive around 7a and depart 4 pm, so not much time.

 

Obviously, there are cruise sponsored excursions, but we're wondering what you might recommend for us as can't miss highlights. None of us are snorkelers...never been. Everyone seems to talk about snorkeling with the turtles. Other ideas would be appreciated.
