April-in-NC Posted July 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2011 My parents are going on a Carnival cruise in a few weeks. My mom would like to go parasailing and she thinks my dad would enjoy it (he used to be a paratrouper in the Army) but we are both concerned about his limited mobility. Several years ago my dad had a stroke that affected the right side of his body. He can walk (slow and with a limp) and he can climb stairs (probably not a ladder without serious assistance). The biggest concerns we have is getting dad from the pontoon boat to the speed boat and how "hard" the landing is. They want to book through Carnival but they are open to private tour companies. Any ideas? I've been to Grand Cayman but I didn't get a chance to parasail because it was booked. Thanks!
Mikel1733 Posted July 31, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2011 I've done parasailing twice off the back of the speedboat and the landing was very smooth. Each time I went up with one of my grown adult kids so two at one time and it was very nice. I would think it would work for your dad. Someone could go up with him. Swampbaby Posted July 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2011 "Landing" for me was VERY SMOOTH. I have bad knees and was very worried. Heck, I didn't feel the "lift-off" nor the "landing". Since I am not stable above 3 inches off a floor I thought getting to the boat would be bad. Not a problem at all. Like someone else said, go tandem and both enjoy. April-in-NC Posted July 31, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted July 31, 2011 Thanks! How easy/difficult was the tranfer between boats? Was there a platform? Steps? Ladder?
