popeye0429 Posted August 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2011 :rolleyes:Seems many cruisers that don't live within driving distance of their cruise port arrive a day before and stay a day after .. "Just in case" .. Here's an idea .. and maybe it's being done already ... I think the cruise lines should "hookup" with a major hotel or hotels and offer those accomodations .. including parking, a shuttle to port, possibly a meal or two .. and most important a reasonable price. When you'd book your cruise you would also book the hotel in "package" form .. pay one price .. there that homework is done ... If you didn't like the hotels offered .. no problem .. Thoughts fellow cruisers ?
DaytonCruiser Posted August 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2011 They offer packages, but they are usually far from reasonable, Carnival is goin to make a profit on the deal, so its almost always cheaper to do it on your own. The package deals are primarily for people that want the cruise line to handle everything for them, not as a cost saving method.
okgirl Posted August 3, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2011 Carnival used to offer pre and post cruise hotel packages, but stopped many years ago except for European cruises. It must not have been a profitable option or they wouldn't have eleminated the option.
taszmom Posted August 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2011 They do and its ridiculously priced that's why no one books their packages. In some cases taxis are easier and less expensive (Ft Lauderdale for instance). For the hotels they charge a per person rate vs a nightly rate like when you book direct with the hotel. I just Google cruise and stay packages in the port city and find the deals myself.

Just recommendations and if you stay at a hotel in Europe that they recommend, it's a bit cheaper but doesn't include transfers, meals and such! :)
popeye0429 Posted August 3, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted August 3, 2011 :( Well .. that was just a fantasy I guess. Seems it would generate more profit for the cruise line and the hotel if it could be "discounted" and "reasonable" as a package .... tho the hotel would probably be the biggest loser in that deal. Toooo bad their marketing departments couldn't work together .. they lose ... Thanx for your thoughts !
