San Juan Puerto Rico Trolley accessible?????

Does anyone know if one of the trolleys that goes around old san juan can take a person in a manual wheelchair that can't walk/climb at all???

 

Heard so much about big hills an cobble stones pushing our son all over sounds like it could be more of a workout then a vacation.

When we were in Puerto Rico last I was still using a wheelchair and there was a trolley with a lift in the rear. When we boarded the original trolley I had some difficulty and the driver went to a central location and exchanged ours for the trolley with lift. It seems there were several there at the time, but since he did not discuss it with us (wc seating is in the back by the lift) I am not sure if he radioed ahead.

I would suggest you also check the port boards here on CC for San Juan info, maybe someone has posted the email for the transit system there.

I was in San Juan Jan 2010 with my mom. When we were there, they only had one trolley with a lift and we were told that it was broken that day. I ended up getting a workout with all the pushing up hills. I am not sure how often the lift breaks down. I'll be back in San Juan with my mom in February and am hoping the lift trolley will be available. If not, at least I have a couple other family members with me this time to help with pushing.
