krotzie Posted August 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Just off the Destiny and had a great time. Have crusied RCL, NCL, and Princess. While we still prefer Princess, The Destiny had the right dates, stops and price point. Yes, it is an older ship, but they do their best to keep it up.. Pros: Enbark, and Disenbark. Very easy on both fronts. Got to the Pier at 11:30, on ship by noon. Getting off was too easy. Had a 11:50 flight at MIA, and we were off by 7:45, in cab and at our gate by 9:15. My wife looked at me and said what are we going to do now for 2 hours. Dinning Room: We had a great wait staff, and went every night. It amazes me that people skip the dinning room. Good food and treated like royalty. Cabin: 6377 Aft Balcony. We are now spoiled with the aft balcony cabins. Clean room, no smells, and a bigger shower than we are used to. If you look hard you can find little things here and there. Staff: Nice overall staff Shows: very good Cons: Not the cruise line faults, but some parents fault. We had our six year old with us, and have no problem that there were 800 kids on board, but the pool area was out of control. We still had fun, but some parents just dump their kids off at the hot tubs, and leave them all day. Kids were jumping and diving in them all day. I am very suprised no one broke their neck. Would see a group of kids at 11am, and see them at the same hot tub at 11pm, jumping off the sides on top of each other and no parents to be found. These are 3 -6 year olds. But, like I said it was not something to ruin a vacation. Pools: Not big enough. On sea day you were shoulder to shoulder. I do like Princess with fresh water pools and the Destiny had salt water. Not a big deal, but a preference. Buffett: Like others said, adesign flaw. Always lines running into other lines. But, if you plan accordingly, no problems. Security: This is for all the lines I have been on. And not a problem for me, but still suprises me. The Pot smell in some of the hallways. You mean no one from Carnival can smell it? But i have seen this on other lines, so not a Carnival probelm. Oveall, a good trip. None of the cons even came close to ruining our trip, just thought they were worth mentioning. We were going with low expectations after reading some of the reviews, and were very suprised. Like anything, and all lines, If you go looking for problems you will find them. If you go, and say you are on a vacation, you will have a blast. So do not worry about the Destiny, just go and have a good time. Any Questions??? kcp5 Posted August 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Thanks for great info - I have until 08/20/2012 to plan! What activities did you enjoy on your day at sea? When did they hold the Fun Behind the Ship (or whatever it is really called???) tour and what was the charge? Which ports did you visit - we are doing the Eastern Carribean one - so any info, especially on Nassau if you went there, would be great. We've been to Nassau and it's not a favorite spot - Atlantis just seems too pricey for us for one day (for four of us) so if we opt to get off the ship, I thinking Sheraton Day pass since I understand you can just walk to it. If you did Grand Turk, did anyone do a scuba trip? Thanks so much! --kp

rgalpaugh Posted August 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2011 We're considering the aft wrap on the same deck for a cruise in March. Any noise from the lounge below? Thanks
gmros Posted August 9, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2011 So do not worry about the Destiny, just go and have a good time. I'm so glad to hear that! We're sailing on her in November. DEBnGAB Posted August 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2011 We've got 6371, one of the Lshaped balconies a couple doors away from your cabin. Any noise issues from the lounge? Glad to hear you had a great cruise!
CaraKeet Posted August 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2011 We were on the same cruise without kids this time and tried to stay at the back of the boat for sunning/reading since it's posted adults only. We did see a few kids but imo it was so much quiet/peaceful. One thing I would highly recommend is the chef's table. It was fantastic! A real treat. I've heard nothing but great things about it. Is it true that you sample alot? Thanks.

Did you have a lounge chair on your balcony? We had a balcony on Lido- 9208. No lounge chairs, just regular chairs and an end table.
krotzie Posted August 9, 2011 Author #12 Share Posted August 9, 2011 I can answer a few of the questons. The Aft cabins had a small table, chaise lounge and two chairs. It was wonderful. The adults only pool was awsome. We would of been there the entire time if it was not for our 6 year old. The noise. Yes there was some noise, but it was not anything too bad. We could hear it, and we were worried about it as well, but no big deal. Never used the wfi. At sea. Did Bingo (sun got too much the last day) also did build-a bear for our little girl. Same as the one at the mall, but half the price. And the casino. Liked playing craps, but they had one table and it was 10 min. Was empty a lot of the time. Aft is so nice as there is a nice breeze. We used it more than we ever have used a balcony.
