No, the Jones Act doesn't apply to ships sailing round trip from the same US port.

actually it does that is why its traveling round trip. Since it begins and ends at the same port its not transporting any one any where. Also you can legally get off in Canada or on in Canada without violating the Jones act. There must be some Canadian rule against this. BTW to the poster who couldn't travel the back to backs. Next time use intials and have one ticket sent somewhere else than you home.i.e slmeyer or smeyer, the chances are they won't catch this.

My understanding of the Panama routes is that they typically call on a port that is considered 'far-distant' along the way. I believe that Virgin Islands also have an exemption of some sort from the Jones Act so that NY - USVI - NY is ok, too.

As for the "within Canada" route, Celebrity is sailing 2 night Vancouver - Victoria - Vancouver itinerary in late May, which is what prompted me to ask the question. If I don't get a response to my email to HAL tomorrow, I'll call again. I've gotten different answers and maybe I should have stopped at "yes." without asking them to 'make sure.' there is a lot more involved with the Jones Act than cruise ships.
