Table for 2?

You don't mention what ship, but just ask the Maitre'd. friends we met on the last cruise were at a large table, and although they enjoy meeting new people, they prefer dinner alone. At boarding, when they checked, they saw the Maitre'd and they were changed for the first night.

My husband and I requested a table for 2 also on our upcoming May cruise. I hope we get it, we will check our table when we first board the ship. If we don't get it, we will go beg them. Hee Hee

Just wondering, Why would you need a table for 2? Need to ask, as for me, looking at my wife all week long, umm gets kinda boring, for god sake I see her at home !!!! I love sitting at a table of 8 or 10, sharing stories and getting to know new people from all walks of life.

That why I wanted to ask your opinion on the table for 2 preference.

I agree!

On our last cruise we were seated at a 4 top off to the side and the first night the other people didn't even show...so we requested a move to a bigger table and ended up at an 8 top at the back of the Conquest with huge bay windows and had a view of the sunset every night. We also met some great people at the larger table and ended up hanging out with them during all of our free time on board.

I love coming away with new friends after a vacation!

The reason my wife and I prefer a table for two is the fact that all my life I have had a job that I spent a minimum of 65 hours a week at the office, combined with phone calls..day and night..at home. I recently retired and you can bet your bottom dollar we will be begging for the table for two! (Maybe after a few more months here together, we will change our minds, but right now...it is the most wonderful time of our lives.)

I agree... sitting at a table with others is such a great experience!!! I didn't think so before going on our first cruise, but afterwards, I would never want a table for two... granted, we generally sit with our friends... but even when we didn't, we ended up meeting friends for life!!!!! If your ship has a supper club, you could do the seating for two there, and then still enjoy eating with others during the week. There are so few tables for two, I wouldn't set your mind on it... if you don't like your tablemates the first night, see if the maitre'd will change you, otherwise, you might be surprised and end up spending some time with some great people!!

People who have never cruised, usually don't know what to expect when seated with other people. Believe, after spending all day with your beloved spouse, you will enjoy a table for eight. Other people are so interesting and fun to be around. Try it, you'll like it, I promise.

Exactly...and I also really enjoy hearing about the other excursions people did in port because I wasn't able to experience them myself. It also helps me get an idea of things to do if I visit the port again.

And a lot of times you meet other habitual cruisers who have suggestions for future cruises...

Although we haven't decided what we'll do, I think it's quite possible that some people would honestly really hate sitting at a large table. My fiance isn't too talkative with strangers, so I would be holding up our end of the conversation. Honestly, I'm not on the cruise to meet people so I don't know if we'll want to sit at a big table or not. Maybe I'm just anti-social :)

I don't think you're anti-social at all. I'm with you, I'm in sales and therefore in the business of smiling and building rapport and making small talk almost every single day. When I'm on vacation, I want to get away from my typical day-to-day. I love meeting people, but prefer I control when and not be forced into "making" friends with strangers. IMHO.

Over the years, my wife and I have made wonderful friends via cruising. Our recent cruise on March 13 on the Miracle was the first time we've dined at a table for two and we thoroughly enjoed it!

Our past experiences ranged from tables of 4 to 3 long tables of 12 during a group cruise we arranged. It was very nice for change to completely enjoy each others company without having to be concerned about making conversation.

There's no telling how we'll approach our cruise, but I would not rule out a table for two . . especially with such demanding social networking on the job.

Count me in as an anti-social too :D . I don't care to speak to strangers and I don't travel to make friends. I want to spend time with my husband -- and after 16 years we still find each other to be interesting and fun to be around, thank you very much ;) .

On our first cruise we had a table for 10 and hated it. On the Holiday and Destiny we did get tables for 2 after asking the maitre. And we just returned from the Golden Princess, which has the Personal Choice dining -- you choose the time and table size you want. Heaven!!!

So, to the OP: Yes, you can get a table for two. Have your TA request it and make sure you go to the DR as soon as the maitre d' is available for changes to assignments. Have a fun and romantic time :) !
