Babr Posted October 12, 2011 #27 Share Posted October 12, 2011 I went to the Air Canada website to read the update, but I do not fully understand what it means when Air Canada says that they expect a "definitive resolution for our passengers." Will the flight attendants not be allowed to strike at all under the various rules until a final settlement is imposed? Or does this just postpone action? YXU AC*SE Posted October 13, 2011 #28 Share Posted October 13, 2011 The union has acceded to the authority of the CIRB, which basically puts off any industrial action (strike or lockout) until the board renders a decision to the questions that the Minister of Labour referred to it. It won't really matter how the CIRB decides -- the House of Commons is scheduled to resume Monday next, whereupon they will quickly debate and pass Bill C-5, the 'Continuing Air Service for Passengers Act' -- which they had already loaded in the legislative hopper for when AC's customer service agents went on strike at the beginning of the summer. AC's CSAs settled before the original bill could be passed. The bill remained on the notice paper, so get out the WhiteOut™ and swap out the name of the unions involved, and you've got a ready-made back-to-work bill. Barring a wildcat strike, or sickout-type action, you should be good to go for your flights. Service might be a little cool on your YUL MUC leg -- there is a fair amount of raw feelings at the moment, that should subside with time. Scott. toberman Posted October 21, 2011 Author #32 Share Posted October 21, 2011 Air Canada and the Union have agreed to binding arbitration - so no strike by the FAs. A settlement is to be reached by Nov 7th. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1073626--air-canada-union-agree-to-binding-arbitration?bn=
