Old san juan up hill?

Everyone keeps saying walking to anything is up hill then the walk back to the pier is down hill.

 

How high above sea level is it at the top of the hill in Old San Juan?

sorry I meant to say how most say its an easy down hill on the way back.

 

In my mind if its easy down hill after a full day of walking with tired legs and feet probably with atleast one shopping bag then it can't be that bad on the way up can it?

there is small hills here and there...nothing steep unless your visiting the forts then you will have some steep stairs and walk ways. There is minor elevation changes in OSJ but nothing you would really pay much attention to when walking the town.

I'm in San Juan at least a couple of times a year and just returned from there on Friday. There is a steep uphill (two blocks) in OSJ as you walk from the piers up to the road between the two forts. I saw a few people stopping to catch their breath after the first block. But it's not a big deal at all.

It is fairly steep but certainly manageable for most.
