fink402 Posted September 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2011 We plan to visit the Fortress of Louisbourg on Oct 10. First of all, I know it's Canada's Thanksgiving, but I assume the Fortress will still be open. Is that correct? We plan to NOT take the ship's excursion so I need to find the best way to get our group of 8 from the ship to the Fortress and back. Are there any taxi/car services that can hold 8 people? Or should we rent two cars? Thanks in advance for your help.
maryann ns Posted September 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2011 You are making a great decision to visit Fortress Louisbourg. It will be open and it should be a good day to visit. Be prepared for cold, wind, rain, sun, etc. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/ns/louisbourg/index.aspx Here is a previous thread which mentions a taxi service: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1450281 Here is another previous thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1401285 I don't know whether you could find a van for eight (nine with the driver). You may be able to find a mini bus and maybe there are others on your cruise you could join with. You would need to go to your Roll Call to check that out. You could hire two taxis, or for less money, rent two cars.
fink402 Posted September 26, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks for your help, maryann. I have rented two cars. We are SOOOO looking forward to seeing the Fortress of Louisbourg. Here's hoping for sunny weather!
maryann ns Posted September 27, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2011 We are having an incredible spell of warm sunny weather right now. the leaves are starting to change colour and the long range forecast for the next month or so is good. Here's hoping. However, seeing Louisbourg in the cold and the rain really helps you to get an idea of what it was like to live there year round without our modern clothes and heating.
