Chankanaab - stay all day or go elsewhere?

My friend and I have booked a dolphin encounter at Chankanaab for 10:00 am. Once we’re done I’m not sure what to do/where to go for the rest of the day (our ship departs at 6:00 pm).

Ideally, we’d like to relax on the beach and do some swimming/snorkeling. Should we stay at Chankanaab or is it worth the extra time and dollars to go to one of the beach clubs that are mentioned in the forum?

As well, how far are the beach clubs from Chankanaab? Are they located on a stretch of beach that would be nice for walking? I understand that there isn’t much of a beach at Chankanaab, just steps into the water for snorkeling – is that right?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The beach clubs are close to Chankanaab, however I don't think its going to be worth leaving for.

Chankanaab has a LARGE sandy area with lounge chairs and other things you would see at a beach. The snorkeling at Chankanaab is going to be better than the beach clubs and the food is good too. Plus I recommend you stick around for the Sea Lion show, it's only 15-20min but it's fun and it's included in your admission.

There's also a nice bar to sit at that overlooks the ocean.

Yes the entrance is rocky, so you can't walk along the beach and have the water come over your toes... but you can walk threw the sand and take in everything else. (smell, breeze, view etc..)

Maybe 200yds or so and a lot of that is sand/dirt, not much of the area outside the Sea Lion show/Dolphin thing is paved or decked.

You walk by a little gift shop, around a small inlet were they launch kayaks and then pass a little outdoor bar and restaurant area... that's when the "beach" area starts.
