Virginoftheseas Posted September 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2011 Ok so my husband was looking at this site with our son and saw someone mentioned gelato at the pool bar. Does anyone know roughly the price of the gelato? we'll be sailing the caribbean in less than 5 months
monicajay Posted September 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2011 In March a small was $1.50, can't remember the price of a large. They also did fancy stuff like banana splits but didn't try that either. A small single scoop was plenty for me. Some people complained on board because of the extra charge but we thought it was so good and so cheap that it was just to deter people from taking it and wasting it. Coffee was my favorite flavor. Janet&Carl Posted September 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2011 There was lots of flavours and they all looked good enough to eat - our favourite was a peach flavour and it was absolutely delicious :p
camofwilliamsburg Posted September 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2011 It is by the Mojito bar( they have the best Mojitos as compared to the other cruise lines we have cruised on). I do believe it is a bit more than 1.50. I am thinking 2.50. The flavors will change daily. A lot of people asked for soft serve also, and that was added for free. Hi Cam when you say "added for free" was it added to your icecream that you bought or added to the menu ??
camofwilliamsburg Posted September 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2011 Hi there. Gelato is FREE with the meal if ordered at dinner. Also, free ice cream (or maybe it is frozen yogurt) is self serve on deck 13. I do not recall the hours.
AmoMondo Posted September 27, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2011 It is also free in the dining room at lunch, albeit you don't get as much choice there (the ice cream of the day). Compared to what you get at the pool bar
camofwilliamsburg Posted September 27, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2011 Thanks for that clarification, anytime in the dining room if they have it listed it is free. There is also soft serve which is self serve on deck 13, limited hours.
woodofpine Posted September 27, 2011 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2011 In the Med last 18 months ago, I think (think think) - recollect it being around $2.50 - 4.00 in Euro equivalent a la carte based on two available sizes (smaller or medium). There, MSC also offered voucher packets for ten (mediums me think) that provided a discount (10-15%) I'm an ice cream freak, and we were with half dozen youngsters so we were buying these. The vouchers are transferrable. Also like all good baroque Italian organizational structures (variety or chaos - depending on perspective), there was a cheaper 'bargain' voucher book limited to 'regular or daily' flavors (I think vanilla, choc., strawberry or coconut?) and a pricier unlimited variety voucher pack for all the 'fancy' flavors like hazelnut, tarimisu, and the more exotics... Yummy stuff! The foregoing was a European sailing; they've varied their practices and offering a fair degree for the Caribbean. Check. If you go MSC, dig out of their web-site (it doesn't jump out in vernacular; like 'advance services' or something) the possible drink packages - if you tipple. They vary from Europe to N. America, they are a crazy quilt of possibilities. Beer, wine, liquor - liquor and wine - liquor and coffee, wine and coffee, bear and water... I'm goofing on it a bit - but it is extremely varied and it allows one to potentially save a few bucks if your consuming habits are fairly predictable. Enjoy. monicajay Posted September 27, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 27, 2011 What I had on both the Orchestra and the Poesia at the pool bar was not the same as the stuff served free in the MDR. I might be wrong on the price but was happy to pay by the pool as it was sooooo yummy!
boca7 Posted October 19, 2011 #11 Share Posted October 19, 2011 I agree, the gelato at the pool bar was superior in quality, & the price depends on the portion, starting at $1.50.
