Best place(s) to view ships coming or going from Port Everglades.

Could one of the FLL locals point us to a good viewing spot for ships coming or going from Port Everglades. We will be a couple of days early for our cruise, have a rental car and plenty of time.

You'd have to pay admission, but the John Lloyd State Park on the south side of the port inlet would have good views and is probably the easiest to get to if you want up close. You'd be able to see most of the ships in the harbor as they manoever out, as well as when they sail into the ocean. The beach up by the Shertaton Ft Lauderdale Beach Resort has public parking and you'd see the ships coming out of the port inlet and into the ocean from about a mile away or so. If you are up for a sandy walk, you could walk down the beach to the port inlet and watch the ships come out right beside you. The ships usually blast their horns as they sail by here because of all the people in the condos waving flags and blowing horns.

 

You could also walk up on to the 17th St Bridge, which overlooks the port, and see the ships turning around to leave.

In the John Lloyd State Park, is one able to get all the way to that sea wall at the NE section of the Park by walking along the beach ? Also nice enough beaches for just hanging out ?

Some people walk out to the rocks on the north side of the inlet that goes out to sea, but I'm not sure exactly where you can park and get access where you don't have to go through public property. You have to go east over the 17th St bridge and then make a right turn soon after and it is back in that neighborhood.
