What would you do???? I filled out the form for what would amount to a $200.00 OBC from an ES Price drop. this is the reply I got from Carnival.

"Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

The rate your requested is available under our Pack & Go Promotion, which only offers IS/OV/BL categories. In order for us to be able to reprice your reservation to the lower rate you requested, you must forfeit your current cabin assignment and a new cabin number will be assigned by Carnival up to 24 hours prior to the sailing. Please reply back to this email within the next 24 hours and let us know if you still want us to proceed with the price adjustment you requested.

Thank you again for choosing Carnival.

Sincerely,"

I'm not sure I want to give up the cabin I picked out for us...

No one can really answer that question for you...it is your decision. If you do not care where your room is, I say go for it!

In my experience, I ALMOST did a Pack and go rate as price match, however I decided I did not want to take the chance, and I am VERY happy I did not...I have actually ended up with MUCH more OBC and got to keep my room!

Good luck though!

Well that's just it... I don't know one cabin from another (first cruise). I'm booked on the upper deck Stateroom 21 it's a forward ocean view room.

I never stayed in OVs - only balconies, so here is what I would have done in the situation when balcony is involved.

We book either the lowest category unobstructed balcony or special balcony only few of which are available on each ship (for example: premium balconies on Spirit class ships).

If I had lowest category unobstructed balcony I would look at the inventory of obstructed balconies. If there are still many available, I would look at the price difference of obstructed balconies and pack and go rate and then decide if it is worth it to chance it that I will get assigned obstructed view balcony. If no obstructed balcony is available it is virtual guarantee that I will get at least the balcony category I already have.

If I had a special balcony I would only release it if the the price difference was substantial between what I paid and pack and go rate - like $1000 for 4 people. This is because the price difference between unobstructed low category and premium balcony for 4 people on a 7 day cruise may run as high as $500 - $600. Unless I see substantial price reduction I see no sense to switch to something I could have had at the time I booked.

We never book anything in between, it is not worth to us to move one deck higher or lower. I also would never book underneath lido deck.

I am not familiar with OV particulars, but take a look at the inventory of what is available in lower categories than what you have (including price difference) and see if it is worth it for you to switch. Basically, if you get the lowest category OV available right now are you going to be OK with it given the OBC you receive?

Personally I'd do it for $200~ U21 is a 6C forward right next door to Porthole cabins~you could end up in a 6A on Riviera deck which is all the way aft, but other than that you have a good chance of getting a decent location since there are a ton of oceanviews. And if you do switch over to a guarantee once you are assigned your cabin, then you can price match to that specific category.
