Taxi recommendations?

Hi folks,

 

When choosing a taxi in St Thomas with my family, should we be looking for particular ones in particular? I know on some islands they tell you to choose a specific licence plate type as they are registered, so I didnt know which ones we should look for in St Thomas? Thanks!

Licensed taxi vehicles are labeled with: a taxi placard or dome light on the roof, license plates that indicate Taxi status, On Duty/Off Duty sign in the window of the vehicle and a sign, usually on the fender, indicating passenger capacity. The drivers personal identification/taxi license should be on the vehicles dash board.

There will be a taxi dispatcher at the taxi stand at the port who will indicate which taxi you take. All the taxis at that stand will be "legal".

Johneeo, looking to grab a cab to zip over to Coral World and then spend the afternoon at Coki.

Taxis at the big taxi stand at the pier will be legal. Same taxi may come back to pick you up on the return. We have had it where they do't even want to be paid until the return trip.
