We will be on the carnival conquest leaving the 17th. First time cruisers for out honeymoon. We don't want to do anything dealing with the water. Any suggestions of sites to see and where to shop for just suvieners? I think we may just try and get a taxi instad of doing it through carnival. There tours are unclear to me as to weather or not the bus or whatever stops for you to get down and see. Or if they just pass by whatever it is. Plus I may not want to see that particular thing and see something esle that isn't offered. I just don't know what ther is I guess. We will be in Grand Caymen from 7-4. Thanks

My suggestion is find a taxi right where you get off the tender and set a price. They can give you a tour of the island that can last a couple of hours or all day long. They will take you to the Turtle Farm, Rum Cake Factory (they are beside each other), by Hell to mail a postcard or buy a T-Shirt, down past 7-mile Beach to see the big hotels, and may take you to the Eastern side of the island, where some of the big houses are. They will give you insight on the island, etc. Set the price and what it includes before going.

Rum Point is nice for a beachy day. Things in GC are expensive compared to other ports. They make alot of their money with international banking so you will see more banks here!

Go to Hell.... and then the rum factory and then the turtle farm. As said above ask the taxis at the pier and set a price before you go. There are plenty there waiting. They will take you to all the places that are not really water related. Georgetown at the tender pier is the main city on the island and where most of the shopping, etc. is.

Thanks for the replys. What price range would be good for me to agree to if I went to those places? How much is it to actually get into those places? Will the taxi wait or do I just catch another one after? If I catch another one I guess I need to know good rates for one way and not round trip.

You can easily walk to nice shops close to the pier if you want. Also Totuga Rum has a store within walking distance and you can get great rum and rum cakes there. Georgetown is clean and safe although I am sure it is still recovering from the Hurricane. The ship will probably give you a shoppers guide along with advice on taxi's. You probably won't be able to negoitate a rate with them as I believe they are set rates, but I don't think you have to worry about being "taken" either.

We went on a full-day tour, escorted when we stayed in GC. Took us everywhere and then some. Included admission to Turtle Farm also. He also took us to a little place for lunch that was pretty good. Just tell them what you might like to see.

look at http://www.caymanislands.ky Lots of info there. (that is where I did my research before we went for a long weekend during the Pirate Festival a few years back.

We recently toured with Geddes and cannot say enough good things about him and his tour. Having been to Grand Cayman several times before we were shocked to see the destruction from the hurricane. Much of the vegetation is gone, and it of course has affected the wildlife. Hopefully much of it will return/regenerate after the rainy season.

Having done Stingray City and gone scuba diving on our other visits we were anxious to see the rest of the island. A tour with Geddes was just perfect. We did the Eastern Experience, which essentially means you drive throughout the entire eastern side of the island while Geddes provides information on the history and culture in Grand Cayman, as well as the flora and fauna along the way. We did not have an opportunity to do the Mastic Trail, and the Botanic Garden, which we were also considering, was not open at that time.

If you want to see Grand Cayman outside of the tourist area, Geddes is the way to go. He can be reached at silvert@hotmail.com.:)

Although I don't know anything first hand about this attraction it sounds like it might be worth checking out if you don't want to do anything with the water. (You're not the only ones, neither do we.) The place I have in mind is Pedro St. James which is some historic residence that looks interesting. (see the website for Pedro St. James). Has anyone been to this place? If so what was it like? How far is it from Georgetown? Admission is only $8 US/ person. Anyone know anymore about this?

Grand Cayman's Q. E. II Botanic Park http://www.caymanislands.ky/to_do/activities_botanic.asp

Has anyone ever been there? It's only $6 a perdon to get in. I'm wondering how much it would be to take a taxi there. Our port is Grand Caymen. I make take the highlight and shopping tour that carnival offers too (it's a 2 hour tour). But it doesn't look like they offer this at all. It sounds like it's new and not too known. I think we'll have time to do them both. We will be docked from 7-4.

Hey Lucky,

If you're going to Grand Cayman you gotta take a tour out to Stingray City to snorkel, swim and feed thestingrays.

Did it last Nov on EOS. The girls are beautiful as they come up to you and play with you. You feed them squid and they keep comin back for more.

They have no teeth so they suck in their food. REMEMBER after you feed them..don't rub your feedin hand on your leg...then you go back to the ship with a Stingray Hickey...and explain that to your s/o...WHOOOOOO!!!!

Instead of booking on the ship, book ahead through Soto's (Google for their website) as they're cheaper than the ship tour. The web site will give you an email address and phone numbers so you can contact them well in advance.

Another possibility if you like riding a bike is to rent a bike and ride to Hell and back...no kidding. Hell is a little place on the NE side of Grand Cayman.

In Georgetown you'll probably be tendered ashore but the tender ride is not like Aruba, it's only about four minutes to the pier.

Have a great holiday and live Grand Cayman for your day there.

Ciao for now!!!
