kimdankids Posted April 3, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2005 Does any one have any recommendations for snorkeling in Belize, Roatan, or Cancun. We are doing our own excursions. We would like something accessable from the beach, no boats. A short taxi ride away from the cruise ship ports would be best. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Kim
robbyxoxo Posted April 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2005 ive snorkeled at all 3 of these ports.....in belize, you'd be best off taking a tour to find snorkeling....there is really nothing you can do on your own there......you can take a water taxi to caye caulker and do some snorkeling from the beach there, but its not much to see unless you take a tour from the island out a mile to the reef......in roatan id highly suggest grabbing a cab to tabyana beach and snorkeling from the beach there.....the beach and snorkeling there just doesnt get much better.....in cancun there is some great snorkeling at the southern end of the hotel zone, right behind club med resort....from your port you'd grab a bus or cab going south and get off somewhere near club med....you'll have to walk through a hotels property to get to the beach....beaches are public, but walking through the hotels might be the challenge....most hotels have security....not sure how to advise you on the best way to get through the security....best bet would be to walk in with beach towel over your arm so that they cant see that you arent wearing a wristband....walk through as if youre staying there and they probably wouldnt stop you....we were staying in cancun, so i didnt have much need to walk through other hotels, but the one time i did try, they let me walk right in without a word said......the snorkeling behind club med is well worth it..... karenbf Posted April 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2005 Kim- Some of the best variety and visibility in Cancun can be found just North of the pier. Maximum 3 miles away, a very short taxi ride. There's a small beach with a fast food stand. We saw more there than all the places we have snorkelled in Hawaii.
Trigger69 Posted April 29, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2005 Karenbf, Which pier are you referring to or is there only one? I thought there were two or maybe even three.
karenbf Posted May 1, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Kim- I only know of the one pier that we docked at. I did kind of want to warn you that there are no public facilities at this beach. Also, if you do take a taxi and try to find this beach, you may want to set up a time when they will pick you up. You don't want to be stranded. It's close enough that if you wanted to rent bikes, you could do that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Karen
