papillons4u Posted April 27, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I have had three cruises on RCCL and we are thinking about going on the Mercury in March. Will I be dissapointed at all? We love the entertainment. I hear the Mexican Riviara is beautiful and will love the ports. Has anyone done this sailing> Leaves from San Diago. Would love your opinons! Please Help! superjerryw Posted April 27, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I've sailed on both lines and you should have a great time. You just need to keep in mind that Celebrity is more of an adult experience and things are more formal as opposed to RCCL where they are more casual. For example, on Celebrity the waiters will be very polite, but they will not be overly friendly. On formal nights you will find a higher percentage of people in tuxes and evening gowns, etc. Donuts, is there anything they can't do....
hdawson Posted April 27, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2004 The food will be superior in the dining room. You will be asked to stay in dinner attire for the whole evening if in public areas. Service is a nice balance between formal and chummy. There will be no PA announcements hawking bingo, pool games and the like. You will receive complementary champagne or OJ upon boarding and escorted to you cabin by a steward. You will be given icey towels upon reboarding from ports when you tend to be hot and sweaty. There will be a carraf of drinking water on the vanity next to the ice bucket.
papillons4u Posted April 27, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 27, 2004 "On formal nights you will find a higher percentage of people in tuxes and evening gowns, etc." We just love dressing up. We usually are more over dressed than most! So that sounds like a plus! What about the entertainment? Is it as good as RCCL? Papillon

I can't wait. So do you all think that the ship being a bit older will be a problem??

I've done a ship inspection on the Mercury and sailed on her twice. Everything about the Mercury was marvelous especially the service. Having 2 cabin attendants was great, they did a wonderful job and often opened the door for me when I returned to my room. The bathrobe in every cabin, specialty soaps and q-tips & cotton balls in the bathroom were nice touches also. The rolled heavy cotton hand towels in the public bathrooms, which, BTW, were always clean, was special. The card on your pillow with the weather for the next port with the chocolate, really special chocolate. The fabulous Grand Buffet and several other themed midnight buffets and the Gourmet Bites carried around the ship by the waiters. Sorry for the rant, maybe I should let you experience some of the special little touches that has made Celebrity my favorite cruise line and the Mercury my favorite ship. I'll be sailing on the Mercury again on Dec. 6.
