Also the lower the letter the lower deck you are on...

 

It often has to do with how far forward or how far aft you are since some categories are on multiple decks. Also, Find out what is above and below the cabin you are thinking of booking. Beware of cabins under the galley - sounds like Yan can cook over your head with chopping on stainless at 4am. Beware of cabins under the disco, showroom or other promenade venues that run late at night if you like to sleep. If Carnival is going to keep the action going on Lido at night now that will be another consideration. Ideally, you will have passenger cabins above and below your cabin so that it is quieter. The drag deck feature on cruise deck plans dot com is very helpful for finding the space that is ideal for you.

You won't find an 8A or 8B on deck 8 tho... Deck 6 is the deck if you are booking a balcony to be sure to check as you say where lounges or disco is located...
