If it's before final payment date you get the lower rate. If after final payment date you can only upgrade.

After final payment you get no credit. You can get a room upgrade. On my last cruise the inside room dropped 70 dollars after I had paid. I could upgrade to an ocean view room that had dropped to the price that we had originally paid for the inside room but could not get credit or reimbursed for the difference if they stayed in the original room.

What I was wondering (and perhaps OP too) was if I pay in full before the final payment date (because I have the money now and might not later ;)) then if a week before final payment date the price goes down and they adjust the rate (again, after I have already paid) then how do I get the money back? As a credit on my credit card that I paid with or as OBC?

I believe they credit you, but the rep will advise you when you call.

Making Final payment, and the Final Payment Date can, very often, be 2 different dates. RCI will not refund you after Final Payment Date, they will refund you if you have paid in full and the rate drops before Final Payment Date
