mp3jrick Posted April 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2005 So I am watching the Infinity head for Hawaii. In one of the shots I see the bow rails and fwd radar go down. I'm figuring a Hele landing, but the camera goes off in the archives at midnight. Then i'm poking through the shots and sure enough somebody needed off the ship. This is 1:18AM bridge cam. In the meanwhile I found this crew shot, a rare moment with no passengers on board. And yes, I have much to do but I thought i'd share this. joelmarj Posted April 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2005 WOW! Very interesting. Both the apparent airlift as well as the gathering of crew. Curiosity has me going now. Wonder what it was all about!
brigittetom Posted April 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2005 I just answered my own question after taking a closer look at the pictures. Thank you for posting them.
mp3jrick Posted April 6, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted April 6, 2005 I happened to see the rails going down in the bridge cam shot, that is what caught my eye. When this happens it means an airlift is coming so the deck is open and clear for the hele rotor blades. That is when I started to look closely. In the second shot you can see the spot light from the landing hele. And that is the smaller of the airships the CG uses. My guess is that they needed to get closer to Hawaii for the hele to reach without fuel problems. They were only on board for 6 minutes. Had to be a crew member as the ship is playing catch up since drydock. I have an email into my dj friend on the ship to find out what happened. I will post when he replies, but he is slow with email. brigittetom Posted April 6, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Thanks MP3. After taking a closer look I realized what you were looking at. What makes you think it was a crew member vs passenger?
chessbriar Posted April 6, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Brigittetom, At this time there are no passengers on the ship. They canceled a cruise to put the ship in drydock and now the ship is just headed to the next point of embarkation which is Honolulu. So the crew is getting a 4 day cruise. I'm sure they are doing a thorough cleaning job while they have no passengers
mp3jrick Posted April 6, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Celebrity canned the Hawaii cruise last week to haulout/drydock for pod repairs. So the ship left port empty to pick up the next group in Hawaii which would have been the return trip normally. All I can say is what timing to get repaired and back into sync with the cruise schedule.
brigittetom Posted April 6, 2005 #8 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Thanks mp3 and Chessbriar. I know someone who is on that cruise and mistakenly thought she was already on the ship. I will try to get my facts straight before asking anymore questions. :D
Longboysfan Posted April 6, 2005 #9 Share Posted April 6, 2005 I would have thought they were taking a group shot of the crew for themselves or publicity.
mp3jrick Posted April 6, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted April 6, 2005 Another lucky shot as the sunburns begin to cool down after another smoking hot day on deck 10. This was from Mercury last evening at 8PM.
mmp13 Posted April 6, 2005 #11 Share Posted April 6, 2005 If you look at the archives around the time that the crew is gathered you will see an interesting Picture of them in uniform patterning themselves into a large X. I'm guessing that they were also doing some advertising pics! I think it was around 10 to 11 am on 4/
