Parking in New Orleans

Where is the terminal in New Orleans? Can you stay in a hotel and park there or do you have to park at terminal?

The terminal is at the end of Canal st and the river. If you park at the terminal you pull in and the attendant checks your reservation and charges you for the time you cruise ($15 a day last year) you then drive up the ramp until you see the porters, you let them take your luggage park your car and go down the elevator and you check in....very easy. Many hotels are in the area (Harrahs casino is almost across the street) and most offer cruise parking, however it wont be free.

I don't think that information is correct since Royal is using the Julia Street Terminal, not the Erato Street Terminal which has the indoor parking garage. The Royal Caribbean web site has directions for driving to the Julia Street Terminal. We'll be there next Saturday so I hope the directions are accurate.

The two terminals are right next to each other. You will actually drop your luggage with the porters in front of the Julia St. Terminal, and they will direct you to park in the Erato St. parking garage. We'll be there next week too! WOOHOO!

You have to pay for parking at most New Orleans hotels in the Quarter or downtown area.... $20 up. The Holiday Inn on Royal does offer a pack and cruise special where you can keep your car parked in their lot for the length of your cruise and take a taxi to the port. We sail in Dec. and it is $209 for our room and parking plus taxes.

Catty, we are leaving out of New Orleans Dec 24th on Voyager. We're staying the night before at the Hilton Riverside a couple of blocks away. If you make reservations with them, tell them you are taking a cruise and they can get you a package that allows you to leave your car at their garage for the trip (same cost as the garage at the cruise terminal) and they will shuttle you over to the terminal.

It was the first cruise following a TA. I think the coast guard may have held it up or the inspection may have taken a bit longer. First cruise glitches. I didn't see where there were River conditions/traffic that would have caused a delay, so that's just my guess.

Oy. For us, Voyager of the Seas' embarkation today in New Orleans -- the first for the ship, which is the largest ever to sail from NOLA -- took three-plus hours. Our correspondent says the port is definitely not ready for a ship this size (3,114 double occupancy). You're looking at 'the finish line' after a three-hour wait. Note the plethora of sour faces.

You can get a good park and cruise package with a shuttle to the port at Holiday Inn Superdome. It is the best we could find for the price for our January cruise.

We are parking in the Fulton St Garage in Feb. $12.00 per day, and free shuttle to port. I believe the garage is 2 blocks from the port.

We've used them several times. Very reliable and close to the terminal. We've never had an issue using them. The shuttles run quite often and you don't have to wait until they are full to leave.

When you return from your cruise, how do you get to the Fulton Street Garage? Are the shuttles there to take you back? Do they run frequently?

The shuttles automatically start running when the ship comes in. They pick up in the same area where they drop you off to catch the ship. I always just bring their telephone number with me just in case, but have never had to call them.

 

There is more than 1 shuttle, so they rotate and run frequently. You won't have too long of a wait.

Yes, it's convenient. It's right next to the terminal.

 

The only time we shuttle to the port is if we park at Foulton Street Parking. The port charges $16 per day and Foulton Street charges $12 per day. If it's just the DH and myself, we save a bit and park at Foulton, but if we have the kids or parents with us, I rather just spend the extra and not have to load all of them on a shuttle.

hey I don't know the specs, but I do know there are sizes and length restrictions on vehicles, some cost more and have to park at different areas. I read this, this is not any kind of personal experienc....lol

I would be curious on the larger vehicles as well. We're driving DH's truck and it's a Dodge 2500 extended bed pick up. He can barely park it at Wal-Mart without taking two spots. I'd hate to have to pay even more than $16 per day, which already feels like a lot.
