OCruisers Posted June 2, 2012 #26 Share Posted June 2, 2012 I had the same question about renting snorkel gear. Emailed the Boatyard. They do rent snorkel gear. It is US$ 10 P/P for 3 hours. They require a security deposit by C/C or cash which is refunded when the gear is returned. Very nice of you to find and take your time to post this here! Thank you! :) Thing is .... there's not really good snorkeling off the beach at Boatyard. :o There are vendors who offer snorkel/turtle swims tours there. The time we were at Boatyard, we watched a young couple's "stuff" while they did this. Their snorkel gear was provided in the cost. They had a great time! Thebox Posted June 3, 2012 #28 Share Posted June 3, 2012 Likely because the Victory was the only ship in port, there weren't too many vendors at Boatyard. In fact we went there specifically looking for a local guy to take us out to swim with the turtles and were only approached by two vendors. One guy said he had a glass bottom boat and asked $15 pp to take us out to the turtles and shipwreck. The other guy just seemed more trustworthy (Julian?), asked $35 pp. I offered $20 pp (thanks to info from this site) and he took us out. He called his friend who came to us in a small blue boat. It was a good choice. The guy in the boat worked hard to make sure we were having a good time, came in the water with us to feed the turtles, had snorkel gear on the boat (invested in a snorkel mask before leaving. Good purchase) - and offered water or rum punch on the quick ride back to the beach. We (me and two teen/young adult sons) were joined by two other couples and we all agreed it was a great experience.
travel@2012 Posted June 6, 2012 #29 Share Posted June 6, 2012 We have 5 year old Toddler and wanted to visit Boatyard. Is this a Kid friendly place? Can we just take a Taxi and from the port?
